Commercial Description:
This is the thirtieth special ale from the brewers at Anchor. It is available from early November to mid January. The ale's recipe is different every year, but the intent with which we offer it remains the same: joy and celebration of the newness of life. In ancient times, trees symbolized the winter solstice, when the earth with its seasons appears born anew.

Good dark colour level, nice foam and lace. Powerful carbonation. Ginger-nutmeg nose. Coca-cola taste with spices. Lots of carmel, dry spices and bitterness and malt. Great change of pace. Very drinkable, and drying aftertaste assures that. Did I tell you how this reminds me of Coca-Cola?

Dark brown reddish colour with a dense light brown head. Sweet malty aroma with a solid fruityness ( plum and raisin ) and a nice spicy touch. Malty light fruity flavor with a dry spicyness.

Bottle, at The Rover. Brown with a large light brown head, mostly diminishing, good lacings. Aroma heavy malty (spicy, orange, clove and fir) and moderate hoppy. Flavor moderate to heavy sweet, moderate bitter, long duration, very well balanced. Light to medium body, oily, soft carbonated. Definitely a Christmas Ale to celebrate.

Appealing dark, brownish-red in color, lingering porter-like head: dense and creamy. Nose pushing prunes, taste ending in licorice notes. Smooth, drinkable, nice. Cellaring did it some good.

Deep chestnut brown body floats a creamy light brown head. Soft spicy aroma carries some Nutmeg, Clove and Cinnamon. Lightly sweet flavor base with a long dry finish.

Pours dark brown with a decent off white head. Smells soapy. with some soy sauce, coffee, and espresso notes. Taste is reminiscent of an espresso with orange peel and anisette. Some average spicey and pepper notes are there, but otherwise, this has faded into a bland tasting coffee like stout.

2004 Christmas Ale - 12 oz. bottle. Poured a deep brown with a a very pleasant spicey aroma. Creamy off-white head. I was a little disppointed with the flavor. Initial flavor of spice, particularly nutmeg and ginger, but sort of an odd aftertaste that lingered.
