Commercial Description:
This is the thirtieth special ale from the brewers at Anchor. It is available from early November to mid January. The ale's recipe is different every year, but the intent with which we offer it remains the same: joy and celebration of the newness of life. In ancient times, trees symbolized the winter solstice, when the earth with its seasons appears born anew.

This beer poured with a smoothness like that of maple syrup with a coloring that matches. It formed a good tan head which held beneath it a sweet aroma that seemed almost buttery. The taste was malty and smooth at first and then offered some hops on the back of the palate.

12 oz bottle: thr pour is a rich mahogany with a toasted head. the aroma is of sugary cinnamon, peper, nutmeg, cloves, and roasty malts. spicy but balanced and mellow, it doesnt jump out and hit you in the face. sweet carmelly cinnamony falvors up front followed by roasty coffee like flavors that meld in to a malty semi sweet chocolaty piney finish that is very pleasant. this version seems more mellow and has a less assertive spice kick. i like it alot.

Nice foamy head for such a dark flavourful beer. Definitely taste strong roasted malts and spice to go along side. Not exactly what I was expecting, but a well crafted beer.

Mahogney color with a thin tan head. Malty aroma with some notes of cinnamon and toast, and a slight hint of pine. Some lightly toasted malts, backed by some fruity notes (pear and apple) quickly follwed by some cinnamon and nutmeg. Moderatley bitter finish with some rasberry notes.

A very sweet maple syrup and chocolate covered cherry aroma. Pours very dark brown with a cozy-looking off-white head. Flavor starts of sweet with maple and milk chocolate. Finishes with a bitter rasberry taste. Good body.

On tap at the Anchor release party. There is no fresher OSA. Great malt and spice balance. This beer signals Christmas for me. nutmeg and allspice with cinnamon and clove hints. Roasted cocoa and maple malt with some vanilla and marzipan. Great mouthfeel soft and inviting with great depth. Beautiful rendition.

Pours just like the other OSAs. Nicer head than I remeber. Oh when will they bottle condition? Aromas of vanilla bean, figs, milk chocolate and roasty nuts. Mouthfeel is full. Flavors are the same as the aromas with a drying hop presence along with a very roasty palate. Much spicier than past years. Don’t know how well this will age but it tastes very nice now.
