There was a bit of a tan head on it, but it died down quickly. An interesting arome. Very spicey, but not overly done. I can’t quite pick them out, but they are slightly different from some of the normal spices you get in holiday beers. There actually is a hint of a Christmas tree smell to it. The taste is quite nice. Medium malt body, but not much sweetness making its way through. Somewhat dry taste, with hints of licorice and pine. It really works quite well! Interesting....aromas of spices, licorice, and about 10 different conifers. Yep smells just like my Christmas tree with a bit of juniper to boot. Mouth is greeted with a very dry taste, roasty caramel malt with loads of resiny pine nuts and acorns. Not my bag man, but not too bad for the style.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 10, 2005 (draft) Much more malty than last year’s version. Also a little bit of a chocolately feel to it. Not my favorite but still quite drinkable. UNCCTF (465), Charlotte, North Carolina, USA

The flavor was complex with licorice and coffee coming through the most. Slight warming as it went down with some spice making it very interesting. I really liked this one. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 7, 2005 Bottle. Dark red/brown colour with a thick brownish head. Very complex aroma; sharp with notes of malt, chocolate, coffee and apple. Also caught a brief whiff of garam masala, but I might just have been imagining that. Flavour is equally complex; Acidic, sweetish and spicy with coffee and licorice as the dominant flavour impressions. Too much fizz, though. - But still a great beer! caesar (3034), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands

Taste is slightly sweet, mostly roasted malty. Bitter malty finish. Anchor beers are always of decent quality, not outstanding though. joergen (8637), Frederiksberg, Denmark
