Spice aroma of clove, nutmeg and maybe some cinnamon. Very nutty flavor. Finishes all spices with a hint of coffee. Sort of a watered down porter to me. Overall was adecent brew. frankenkitty (1902), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA

Scent and taste of Cloves and Nutmeg... a bit nutty, malty. Slightly bitter finish. A good seasonal choice, but there are plenty of contenders. pobenohne (504), Northern Liberties, Pennsylvania, USA

Dark brown/black in colour with big creamy head, which was a toffee colour. Mild bitterness and spice.
Thanks again Emily weird drinking a dark ale in Summer. Dogbrick (2855), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 30, 2004 This is a beer to which I look forward every year. Deep dark brown color with a ruby hue. Thick and foamy light tan head, and nice lacing. The aroma is well-spiced, with nutmeg being the only one I could really pick out. Some malt and pine in the nose too. Medium-bodied and easy to drink as always. Loads of spice and malt flavors, along with a touch of dark fruit (plum), pine and even some chocolate here and there. The finish is zesty but with an underlying caramel sweetness. A solid offering, and even though they don’t seem to change much year to year I am fine with that. hopscotch (5483), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 30, 2004 Sparkling clear, deep ruby ale with a small, everlasting, creamy, beige head. Lots of ink-blot lacing. Smells of freshly baked gingerbread and sugar cookies. Well-balanced, but fairly bland, thin flavor. Medium-bodied and silky with medium carbonation. Short, astringent, dry finish. Lizabeth (360), east falmouth, Massachusetts, USA

Nose: licorice, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, coffee, prunes and raisons. Flavor: nutmeg, coffee, chocolate, walnuts, hazelnuts and cinnamon. A yummy dark holiday fruitcake in a glass.

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Dec 29, 2004 Pours a dark reddish brown. Aroma and flavor match well with a nutty taste followed by nutmeg and spices. Flavor is so nutty it seems like I’m sucking on a walnut shell.
