Great taste, but heavy on the tongue. Good pallate, I just recommend not drinking too many of these. But as a holiday ale it’s great and not gimmicky. A good beer!
Upon Further review, this beer becomes very heavy on the tongue after a while. I found myself disliking it more and more as I drank it. brentfeesh (1039), Gadsden, Alabama, USA

Pours a Ruby (heavy on the ruby) brown with a moderate brown head that has a reasonable staying power. Aroma has licorice, caramel, and charcoal. The taste is not at all like a Christmas beer (Which is what I thought this was-in my opinion) but has a treeish hop/malt flavor (sandalwood come to mind) with some licorice. The body is good. Nice mouth feel. DrGonzo (625), Somerville, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 24, 2004 Brown with subtle ruby undertones, fluffy off-white head. Aroma is a wreath of pine needles and hops, the flavor sprinkled with a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg, orange and raisin bread. The spices are well restrained, but festive enough for the holidays. jtw (943), farmington, Michigan, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 24, 2004 Poured out a brownish color with a small lacing head. The aroma was very intriguing with notes of fruit and spice. The taste was also very interesting with notes of roasted malt, cherries and figs with a spicy touch. An excelent brew especially around the holidays to warm you right up! antisnobJP (275), St. Michael, Minnesota, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 23, 2004 Garnet-brown beer with a thin beige head. Smells like a mincemeat pie under the Christmas tree. This is a good thing, really. Sweet start with flavors of pears, cherries, bananas, juniper berries, nutmeg, cola, licorice, and a little roast malt. Fairly thin, not real malty. Long, dry "black coffee" finish. Good beer, but I like more body and maltiness in a winter beer. MrRomero (1934), Nolanville, Texas, USA

Flavor is roasty, lightly so, and spicy. Not overdone at all. Quite nice. bierkoning (6077), La Tropica, Netherlands
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Dec 22, 2004 Nutmeg everywhere in aroma and flavor. Roasted malt with hints of chocolate and pear. Thin to medium bodied. I would like this beer with less nutmeg. Still a quality ale.
