| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 31, 2009 On tap. Dark amber pour with a little white head. Tastes of candy cane and some dark fruit and anise. Tasty but hard to drink more than one because of the sweetness. jkaiser (227), Orlando, Florida, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 30, 2009 Aroma: Sweet, clove, spice, malty. Appearance: Dark, light bubbles, bubble head turns to foamy. Taste: Warming, sweet, spicy, syrupy, cough medicine. Palate: Medium body, sticky but smooth and sweet finish. Overall: Great beer that works well together. It’s quite warming, perhaps could do with some more alcohol strength to bring the winter ale through. Nice malty beer overall though and one I’d love to try next year. scoth (293), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 30, 2009 Pours clear dark chestnut brown with a one-finger tan head, fine and lasting lacing. Rich aroma of molasses, with toast, gingerbread, nutty and grass notes. Medium body, zesty, crisp, and lightly dry. Flavors of gingerbread, cinnamon, clove, and caramel. Lightly bitter finish. Very drinkable. RHeastings (433), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 28, 2009 (2009 Vintage) Enjoyed in a pub glass from a 50oz magnum bottle. The beer pours a dark brown color, with a sizable and very thick off-white to light tan head. The nose is as complex and amalgam of aromas as I’ve ever smelt in a spiced beer: cinnamon, ginger, coriander (perhaps?), and pie spices come through, as does a not insignifcant aroma of medium and high crystal malts. The palate is malt-forward, but stops short of being overly sweet as the result of a bittering that shows itself near the end of the palate. The spices start out strong at first, then fade as the aforementioned bitterness begins to come through in earnest. The finish is semi-dry, but allows the spices to linger on the palate. Overall, a bit different from the 2008 version, but pleasing and a welcome companion during a festive time of the year. Unibonger (69), Mount Shasta, California, USA

Pours a medium-light brown with thick head that has good retention, lacy patterns on the glass. Very malty on the nose, slight hint of cherry/fruit and a bit of caramel. Very interesting spice flavor with ginger being dominant, reminds me of egg nog and root beer a bit, little hop bitterness. Medium body with low carbonation. Flavor and body linger for a while. bigguns22 (113), Maryland, USA
