Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

12 oz. bottle from Total Wine. Cola-like pour; dark brown to black with mild carbonation for a 1/2 inch off-white head. Sweet and dark fruit aromas; not at all the roasted aromas I usually get in a good porter. The flavor however is a very good balance of strong roasted malt and light hops. A good, solid porter.

Bottle poured into an english pint glass. Enormous pillowy tan head quickly dissipated, leaving great lacing atop dark brown/black porter. Aroma dominated by heavily roasted malt. Flavor matches with extra-strong chocolate and coffee notes. Smooth texture, but with a bit of oiliness.

Deep brown / black. Not transparent.Well carbonated, brown head settles quickly. Fruity aroma. Medium body, thick at the end, fizzy. Not sweet, quite bitter, hints of liquorice. Long dry-bitter finish indeed. Some alcohol at the very end. Interesting, but too bitter and dry for me. BJCP would probably classify this as a Robust Porter. Purchased for 14dkr in Metro Glostrup.

Imported bottle - thanks Tom! Pours a deep brown-tinted black with a large beige head, nose of malt, a little mocha, dried dates, a bit appley. On the palate it’s roasty, bitter-hoppy, there’s notes of strong dark cocoa and under it all a hint of port. Dry and full bodied with a long dry-bitter finish.

Poured from 22 oz. Dark brown, almost black, with huge frothy head. Mild nose of hops, malt, chocolate. Tastes of chocolate malt and hops coming through. Tasted better as it warmed up, with a nice dry finish. Overall very good.

Bottle. SOLID. Especially for something I can get all the time. Black Body, tan head. Smoked malty smell, almost a saltiness to it. Taste has coffee and licorice notes, but is also malty and sweet. Awesome.
