Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Bottle from Real Ale Ltd, cheers Duff, consumed 03-05-09 Pours very dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is roasty and fresh coffee beans Taste is slightly sweetened black coffee but quite rich and good roastiness, in fact there is a subtle undercurrent of creaminess in here as well. Loz got liquorice when she snook a sample and she was right, some dark fruits and just the most lovely balance of bitter and sweetness that you could get, marvellous stuff. A7 A4 F8 P4 Ov15 3.8

On tap and pint served at the Bavarian Lodge, Lisle, IL. The pour was black/brown, with a foamy, dark tan head and clingy, curtain-like lacing. The aroma was initially roasty, dark malt, with some tart/sweetness as dark fruit and a hint of caramel The flavor followed as a combo of toastiness, malt sweetness, and respectable hop bitterness. A robust and full bodied "meat and potatoes" porter.

Very dark and rich color. Aroma is roasty and needs to be warmed. Cold it is a bit thin. Taste is smooth and roasty with some usual coffee and a hint of bittersweet cocoa.

pours deep brown with a 3 finger pillowy head. smell is very metalic and macro. taste is not even close to a porter this is just darker version of the steam beer. mouthfeel is the best thing that this beer has going for it - with a light crisp feel which i feel does not even come close to how this style should be. over all this one of the worst porters ever made. it would be an ok session beer for people looking for a bud ligt of porters

Good solid porter a very good malty taste with just the right amount of hop. Smooth and creamy to the palate. A good beer but not over the top

12 oz. bottle from Total Wine. Cola-like pour; dark brown to black with mild carbonation for a 1/2 inch off-white head. Sweet and dark fruit aromas; not at all the roasted aromas I usually get in a good porter. The flavor however is a very good balance of strong roasted malt and light hops. A good, solid porter.

Bottle poured into an english pint glass. Enormous pillowy tan head quickly dissipated, leaving great lacing atop dark brown/black porter. Aroma dominated by heavily roasted malt. Flavor matches with extra-strong chocolate and coffee notes. Smooth texture, but with a bit of oiliness.
