arondee (173), Tucson, Arizona, USA Apr 4, 2009 1 pint 6 oz bottle from BevMo. Pitch black with a small tan head. Smells of malt, barley, coffee, dark chocolate, and black cherries. Taste is lots of coffee, rich, thick, and full of dark chocolate. I don’t usually go for porters but this is a really well made tasty beer. gunnar (486), Sandnes, Norway Apr 4, 2009 Bottle @ Henriks øl og vinstue, Bergen.
Pours almost pitch black, with a generous creamy tan head. Caramelly aroma with strong coffee scent. The taste is mild, caramel with some coffee and chocolate. mikalooch (158), , New Jersey, USA Apr 3, 2009 Bottle. Pours pitch black with cream colored head, nice lacing. Can smell mocha, roasted malt, and with a touch of smokiness. Very rich flavor, chocolate, heavily roasted malt, a touch of hops and banana, unusual for a porter. Very smooth and drinkable. Excellent and recommended. Birdiebeagle (777), Perkasie, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 1, 2009 Bottle Pours a black with a big tan head. The head lasts nicely. Has a weak aroma of mostly malts and hints of coffee. Has a good flavor. Nice malty and hints of roasteness. Light carbination. Good mouthfeel. A solid finish. Reminds me of some English beers. A fairly decent porter. Very drinkable. welho (30), Finland Mar 28, 2009 Very dark coffee like outlooks. Taste has some coffee and chocolate in it. Very good winter beer. sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA Mar 27, 2009 pours black, mocah head.
Aroma of nice roasted malty with some light notes of dark fruits.
Taste was similar, plenty of good roastiness, thin coffee, chocolate, cherry, with light bitter finish as wella s some sugary malts.
This is a fine porter, can’t imagine what it would be with just another 1 or 2 abv on top. amasero (8), Spain does not count Mar 25, 2009 De un marrón muy oscuro y una bonita cabeza también marrón. Escasa, pero persistente. Débil gasificación. (3/5)
Ummmm!!! (8/10) mvcramer (229), Arlington, Massachusetts, USA Mar 19, 2009 Enjoyed this over dinner at Pops in the South End. Complemented a great meal. Pours a gorgeous deep DEEP brown (almost black) with a nice head. Aroma is strong roasted malt with just a hint of bitterness and some vinous notes. Rich on the palate - nice and creamy and with chocolate roasted flavors predominating. Gorgeous beer. I’m more partial to stouts than porters, but this is an excellent beer (no surprise from Anchor!)
