mvcramer (229), Arlington, Massachusetts, USA Mar 19, 2009 Enjoyed this over dinner at Pops in the South End. Complemented a great meal. Pours a gorgeous deep DEEP brown (almost black) with a nice head. Aroma is strong roasted malt with just a hint of bitterness and some vinous notes. Rich on the palate - nice and creamy and with chocolate roasted flavors predominating. Gorgeous beer. I’m more partial to stouts than porters, but this is an excellent beer (no surprise from Anchor!) chandler0201 (341), Durham, North Carolina, USA Mar 19, 2009 Tried this at a gas station in Big Sur on the Pacific Coast Highway. Toasted malts and coffee in the aroma, and some cream and chocolate in the taste. Excellent with a cookie. pressboxjoe (69), , New Jersey, USA Mar 17, 2009 Bottle. Nice lacy tan head. Hold it to the light and it blocks the sun. Toasty malt and a hint of red wine in the aroma. Luxurious creamy mouthfeel. Taste of coffee and chocolate. I really like this beer. PJClarke (610), London, Greater London, England Mar 17, 2009 Biting alcohol in the aroma with hints of clove and coriander. Chocolatey in the mouth with some clove still and metallic flavours. It’s very mild with a pleasant, roasty finish. Surprisingly light and green and a good herby character. Grand biscuit characters build in the mouth and knock around for a deliciously long time. Mmm 41cubs (131), , New Jersey, USA Mar 16, 2009 A solid comfortable porter with enough character to force you to buy a sixer every now and then. I get toffee and mild nougat maltiness in the nose. Flavor is the same with the smallest tinge of mild bitter sweet hops and chocolate at the finish. Medium to full bodied for the style. This is a very smooth beer that begs for a pipe or stogie to go with it, and I don’t even smoke. 2008 12 oz. njbfr (105), New Jersey, USA Mar 15, 2009 Pours a dark red with a huge, velvety tan head. Aroma of light roasted malt, chocolate, and alcohol. Flavor is full on roasted malt with a hint of coffee. Taste of alcohol isn’t masked very well considering it’s only 5.6% Finishes like bitter chocolate. Very good. Anker (305), Hillerød, Denmark Mar 13, 2009 Bottle.
Pours black with a big dense tan head.
Aroma is liquorice and roasted malt with notes of dark chocolate and alcohol.
Flavour is soft roasted malt, dark chocolate and coffee with slightly dry bitter aftertaste.
It has a light to medium body, a delicious porter. dagimp (108), Philly, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 11, 2009 From a bottle. Pours with an extraordinary amount of head! Smells of chocolate and coffee. Good solid mouthfeel without being too syrupy. Just right for a porter. Taste was of slightly burnt coffee and chocolate. A great taste for a porter. The only thing that really knocked this beer down from being excellent, was the undertone/aftertaste of bitterness. Every sip had this minor undertone of biting bitterness that just didn’t go away. It was very noticeable compared with most other porters that I’ve tried. Still, it is an excellent beer and I would gladly drink the others five in the fridge!
