Rodders (114), Norwich, Norfolk, England Feb 3, 2009 (bottle from the fat cat, Norwich) Looks opaque with a dark white frothy head which lasts till the end of the drink. Smells malty with a touch of fruit and coffee, although the aroma isn’t as strong as would be expected. The taste though is beautiful - has a full yet light mouthful, easy to drink yet satisfying. Tastes of sweet vanilla, brown sugar and caramel initially but finishes bitter chocolate, coffee and roast malt, with a touch of citrus hops. Great after taste, an awesome drink. jkwalking05 (1483), Arlington, Texas, USA Jan 31, 2009 Dark brown in color with a medium sized beige head. Aromas of chocolate, roasted malt and coffee. Taste is of roasted malts, coffee and toast. finol (475), Nacka (Stockholm), Sweden Jan 26, 2009 Bottle from Systembolaget.
Pours dark brown with a big brown head. Lots of nice roasted malt. crajun (89), , Texas, USA Jan 22, 2009 Big head after moderate pour into glass
Really enjoyed the mouthfeel; perfect thickness for me.
I expected more taste in beginning but nice smooth bitter end - not over powering.
I will try/buy again fdr137 (32), , New York, USA Jan 20, 2009 12 oz bottle. Dark black with a dark creamy head. Malty sweet aroma. Malty and sweet with a little bit of hops at the end. First impression on the mouthfeel was a little watery. Pretty good example of a porter, but a little watery. aletales (73), , Oklahoma, USA Jan 18, 2009 I am a definite fan of Anchor. This porter was sweet and thick, though not syrupy, and it was balanced quite nicely with enough hops to be sensible. This little bottle entertains from the moment you pick it up off the shelf, throughout the pour of its sensuous black contents to the finish of this pleasantly thick beer down your throat. Great beer. glennmastrange (807), hobe sound, Florida, USA Jan 14, 2009 Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of toasted, nutty and molasses, light perfume for the hops and earth for the yeast, with background notes of raisin, charcoal, brown sugar and vanilla. Head is large, frothy, light brown with excellent lacing and is fully lasting. Color is clear dark brown with a red tint. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic and finishes lightly acidic and bitter. Palate is medium to full, between watery and creamy and has a carbonation between soft and lively. This is an awesome Porter, full and rich. It’s aroma eludes to a flavor and palate most fitting for the style. jfb (413), Weihenstephan, Germany Jan 8, 2009 (bottle) pours the darkest clear brown colour with a creamy brown head. aroma of roasted malt, dark fruits and herbal hops with a hint of chocolate. flavour is roasted malts, chocolate, dark fruit and coffee, very balanced. full body, with smooth carbonation and a nice roasted-bitter finish.
