Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Bottle. Pours as thick/thin as a typical porter. Good flavor to the porter, nice notes of deep roasted malts, coffee. Finishes thin and clean.

Nice spiciness to this porter alongside typical porter flavors- malt, coffee, chocolate. All are a little light though. Palate doesn’t last very long. Balanced, but not very exciting.

Black pour with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, and caramel. Flavor is sweet and caramel with some bitter roasted coffee at the finish. Very smooth and drinkable. Light to medium body.

Bottle. Pours very dark reddish brown with a big but short-lived bubbly beige head. Smells great- caramel malts, roasted nuts, fresh bread. Espresso comes through as well in the taste, which to me didn’t quite live up to the aroma. Slightly watery mouthfeel didn’t help, but the finish has a nice smoky bitterness.

Pours a clear dark brown with a suddenly exploding head that became unmanageable and overflowed out of the glass unexpectedly. Aroma is not too powerful but is consistent woth the flavor to come: Smoke, smoked nuts, a slight hint of dark fruit, and some good dark chocolate and espresso flavors in the center of the body. Overall, very good, and pretty much exactly what I expected.

(bottle from the fat cat, Norwich) Looks opaque with a dark white frothy head which lasts till the end of the drink. Smells malty with a touch of fruit and coffee, although the aroma isn’t as strong as would be expected. The taste though is beautiful - has a full yet light mouthful, easy to drink yet satisfying. Tastes of sweet vanilla, brown sugar and caramel initially but finishes bitter chocolate, coffee and roast malt, with a touch of citrus hops. Great after taste, an awesome drink.
