Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

(bottle from the fat cat, Norwich) Looks opaque with a dark white frothy head which lasts till the end of the drink. Smells malty with a touch of fruit and coffee, although the aroma isn’t as strong as would be expected. The taste though is beautiful - has a full yet light mouthful, easy to drink yet satisfying. Tastes of sweet vanilla, brown sugar and caramel initially but finishes bitter chocolate, coffee and roast malt, with a touch of citrus hops. Great after taste, an awesome drink.

Big head after moderate pour into glass Really enjoyed the mouthfeel; perfect thickness for me. I expected more taste in beginning but nice smooth bitter end - not over powering. I will try/buy again

12 oz bottle. Dark black with a dark creamy head. Malty sweet aroma. Malty and sweet with a little bit of hops at the end. First impression on the mouthfeel was a little watery. Pretty good example of a porter, but a little watery.

I am a definite fan of Anchor. This porter was sweet and thick, though not syrupy, and it was balanced quite nicely with enough hops to be sensible. This little bottle entertains from the moment you pick it up off the shelf, throughout the pour of its sensuous black contents to the finish of this pleasantly thick beer down your throat. Great beer.

Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of toasted, nutty and molasses, light perfume for the hops and earth for the yeast, with background notes of raisin, charcoal, brown sugar and vanilla. Head is large, frothy, light brown with excellent lacing and is fully lasting. Color is clear dark brown with a red tint. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic and finishes lightly acidic and bitter. Palate is medium to full, between watery and creamy and has a carbonation between soft and lively. This is an awesome Porter, full and rich. It’s aroma eludes to a flavor and palate most fitting for the style.
