Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Very soft full bodies carbonation that is pleasant in the mouth. Extremely dry roasted complex that is very light on the toffee and chocolate flavors.

Dark pour with a thick tan head. Big aroma of banana bread, coffee, chocolate, malt. Plenty of all of that in the flavor, plus a spicy peppery note and some hoppy bitterness at the end. Good complexity, and great balance. Really good. I loved it.

WHOOOOAAA, this is WAY overrated on RateBeer. This is only a slightly above average beer and an average porter. Maybe I got a bad keg or something. Taste is fairly flat and one-dimensional. Malty flavor, a little smoke, not much else. Nothing interesting on the mouthfeel - pretty standard. Actually tastes a bit like Anchor Steam, which is a little odd for a porter. UPDATE: Tried this again at the brewery and it’s actually not bad at all. Must have been dirty tap lines or something last time. Still has that Anchor Steam taste to it that sort of dulls the flavors. Must be their yeast. Has nice roasted malts as well though with some chocolate, and has a smooth, creamy palate with soft carbonation. I would put this in the "pretty good" range overall.

Bottle. Aroma of molasses, caramel, brown sugar, sweet malt. Flavor rich with all these weighty, sweet notes, maybe even some vanilla in there. Not really my kind of porter, but interesting and enjoyable.

Bottle. Pours black with a light tan head. Aroma of raisins. Flavor of raisins, molasses, chocolate. This is a raisiny beer. I am not getting this beer, but it might be old...but for now I am not a fan.

12 oz bottle pours deep brown with a very thick tan head. Roasted grain and raisins in the aroma. Rich caramel and chocolate in the flavor with a bit of dryness at the end. A fruitiness at the end of the swallow.

Pours very dark brown, may have particulate, its really hard to tell, tall darker tan/amber head that has great retention and leaves some lacing. Aroma is delicious chocolate and roast malts, a little caramel, dried plums, and burnt sugar. Flavor is lots of roast, chocolate, butterscotch, raisins, a bit of char and a playful fruity note that is difficult to tie down. FInish is fairly bitter with vanilla, banana, roast notes following through.

From bottle: Pours a dark brown that is almost black. Has a thick, creamy, tan head. Aroma is of malt and caramel/chocolate. Tastes of malt, caramel, chocolate, and brown sugar. Slight bittersweet finish with hints of some type of fruit and vanilla. Overall a very good beer.
