Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Bottle. Poured a dark brown with a thin brown head into an English pint glass. Aroma of malt, chocolate and coffee. Flavor was awesome with balanced malt and coffee tones with a chocolate finish. Great beer.

Bottle, Ale Cellar, Darlington. This is a little cracker. Poured a rich, very dark brown with a nice lingering creamy tan head. Aroma was knoclout, and had malt, chocolate and burnt orange. Flavour was just as good and was wonderfully balanced and intricate. Loads happening with the malt, hops, chocolate and coffee all superbly poised. Hop bitterness spot on. Absolutely tasty.

Nice muddy brown pour. Tannish colored head. Roasted aromas, malt, charcoal. Flavor has what you would expect, roasted malts and coffee with nice mocha tones. A little more carbonation than I would like, but it doesn’t seem to hurt this one too much. Finish clean. Nice standard medium bodied porter.

Bottle. Can’t believe I’ve never tried this... Pour is a dark brown with a beautiful tan head. I’m not seeing any light peek through around the edges. Aromas are week, but dark malt and chocolate are present. Flavor is great... a big mix of chocolate, roasted malt and a dark fruit finish are just what the doctor ordered... Nice and full across the palate.

Fairly good sand brown head topping a dark roasted like brew. The nose is a mix of coffee, dark chocolate and some raisin. Flavour is some caramel and cocoa. Bitter and slightly sweet.

Ink black with an enormous 3+ finger head that dissipated slowly and left thick lacing. Roasted coffee is strongest in the aroma, along with dark fruits like plums and raisins. Taste followed the smell, with the fruits coming in stronger than they were on the nose, with a slight hops bitterness that materializes late. Moderate carbonation, medium body and a pleasant warming alcohol presence.

Dark brown, almost black with a tan/brown head. Coffee and chocolate dominate the flavors. One of, if not the best porters I’ve had.
