RedSox2004 (353), Pacific Palisades, California, USA Sep 20, 2008 Ink black with an enormous 3+ finger head that dissipated slowly and left thick lacing. Roasted coffee is strongest in the aroma, along with dark fruits like plums and raisins. Taste followed the smell, with the fruits coming in stronger than they were on the nose, with a slight hops bitterness that materializes late. Moderate carbonation, medium body and a pleasant warming alcohol presence. AMN (127), Dublin, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 18, 2008 Dark brown, almost black with a tan/brown head. Coffee and chocolate dominate the flavors. One of, if not the best porters I’ve had. pepperford (115), robbinsdale, Minnesota, USA Sep 16, 2008 Very dark brown, with a tan head. Almost no lacing. Aromas of coffee, chocolate, & hoppy spices. Nice chocolate, espresso and hop spices give a great body to the beer. A bit of licorice in the end. It may be a bit over the top, but in a good way, tastee SoberCajun (49), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Sep 16, 2008 Pours black at first with a nice red tinge upon closer examination in the light. Tan head, didn’t last. Aromas of chocolate, licorice, and raisins, flavors much the same, with a predominant coffee effect. A smooth, clean, very drinkable beer with just the right amount of complexity. Very nice. wcampbell (572), Central, South Carolina, USA Sep 14, 2008 Pretty good, very drinkable. Full flavored but relatively light bodied. Coffee and roasted malt flavor. Not much else. Lightly dry, which was nice. Lightly creamy. Very smooth taste. Ober (1161), Bommelerwaard, Netherlands Sep 13, 2008 A black colored beer, with a big foamy beige head. The aroma of chocolate malts, with coffee and a fruity freshness in the back. The taste of chocolate, coffee, dry bitter, dark fruits like raisins. The aftertaste is dry and long bitter. I like it. Archibaldo de la Cruz (394), Finland Sep 12, 2008 Bottle. Black colour with a nice creamy tan head. A bit light aroma of sweet, roasted malt. The flavour is roasted malt, coffee and chocolate with a hint of smoke. Smooth mouthfeel. Bitter and dry finish. Maybe a bit too thin for a Porter but it was still very tasty. dmac (1418), Toms River, New Jersey, USA Sep 7, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours a deep brown, good dose of visible small bubbly carbonation clinging to my New Belgium glass, and an average size foamy light beige head. Aroma of sweet coccoa, raisin bread, rum soaked cake and just offly sweet overall compared to lots of other porters. Flavor is initially very sweet that fades into bitter chocolate and finishes with burnt malts. Solid beer that is consistent time after time.
