Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Cute little anchor bottle, served in an English pint glass. Dark brown pour, a bit of ruby around the edges, topped with a dense tan head. Smells of chocolate, cola, and dark fruit. Smooth body. The taste is hard to describe, the flavors are so well integrated that I can’t pick them apart. It is very good though and fairly unique.

This is one of the best and most balanced porters out there, and have found very few porters that lives up to this one. So I consider this one as a standard bearer. Black body with brooding head and nice sticky lacing. Aromas of anice, chocolate and coffee, just the right amount of each. Flavors are the same and in balance with each other, nice medium to full body and washes down with some bitterness... it’s an amazing porter and very low alchohol presence. Definately, one of the best out there.

Bottle (35 cl) from Systembolaget. Dark reddish brown with a medium beige head. Caramelly and roasted malt aroma with herbal hops. Medium bodied and smooth. Very well balanced with some initial sweetness, followed by a dry finish and a lingering soft bitterness.

Bottled. Invicible black beer. Medium head is beige, ok creamy with some bigger bubbles. Aroma has lots of chocolate, dark fruits and sour coffee and chocolate beans in the finish. Malts are delicatedly roasted. Hops in the finish are dryish. Flavor is sweet & sour; swetness from the malts and fruits - sourness from coffee and chocolate beans. Medium to full bodied, smooth mouthfeel and a bit bitter-sticky finish. A great porter!

Draft sample offered after the Anchor Brewery tour. Pours a dark brown/black color with a foamy tan head. Great combination of roasted malts, dark chocolate and coffee. Nice amount of bitterness in the finish. Simply delicious. This is easily my favorite Anchor variety.

Bottle. Pours a dark black color with a very thick creamy head. Smells like chocolate and caramel. Very drinkable. Very rich and very complex roasted flavors. Got this on a create your own six pack. I would definately pick this up in it’s own six.

355ml bottle. Black (or very dark red) with lots of brown head. Sweet aroma, bread, some hops, brown sugar. Taste is also sweet, a bit burnt. Bitterness comes in aftertaste, ends with ashes. Thick mouthfeel, balanced acidity.
