Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

[Bottle] Pours a clear deep brown with a medium tan head. Aroma is candi sugar, bittersweet chocolate, and roasted barley. Flavor was determined to be a little off, but I actually still liked it, and it wasn’t too far out. But regardless, it was nice and smooth and followed the aroma pretty well.

Re-rate: 12oz bottle. Pours a black body with an incredibly creamy, light brown, finger-width head that dissipates very slowly and remains very very very frothy and evident throughout the session. Lots of lace. Really nice looking porter coming out of the bottle. Aroma is sweet and malty. Lots of cherries. Very soft chocolate and roasts. The aroma is mainly dominated by the malty cherries. Different for a porter, but still a solid aroma. Flavor is also different, but quite nice. It starts slow, but grows and grows throughout the finish. Starts with a thick, cherry maltiness then moves into a mild hop bitterness, slightly acidic, and soft creamy mocha middle before finishing with a chocolate cherry overtone and a solid, soft roastiness that lingers for a good amount of time. Palate is full and very smooth. Overall, a really nice, soft porter with lots of taste. Not the bold, in your face roast or hoppiness like some porters, but very well balanced and flavorful. Really good stuff.

Dark beer with small tan head. Nose has chocolate and milk with hints of roast. Flavor is very nice: bitter roasts and licorice give way to sweet chocolate malts. Gets more bitter and ashy as it warms. Enjoyable, perhaps even unique, but not a favorite.

Deep black pour, thick and viscous with a large foamy brown head. Smell tons of bread, some spice and coffee, lots of malt and some alcohol. The smell is pretty good but I found the taste dissapointing, brown bread and malt flavours overpowered anything else. Not to my taste.

12 oz. bottle. Pours deep black, with minimal head, but nice lacing. Who knew such great a viscous beer could come in the neat little Anchor bottle?! Chocolate and coffee flavor and finish. Very drinkable for the style (at 5.6%, I guess that is reasonable). Will purchase again.

Pours with a rich head that lasts to the bottom of the glass. Has a creamy feel and an accompanying smooth roasted coffe and chocolate flavor and just a hint of bitterness. A really easy-to-drink porter.

Pours an almost syrupy dark brown. Has the aroma of caramel, with a hint of chocolate, and a subdued burnt undertone. Has a semi sweet taste of caramel, chocolate, and a little roastyness. This one is quite mellow all around with a smooth finish. Very solid porter.

Dark brown almost black with a good sized tan head, some lacings. Aroma is dark malty some chocolate scent. Taste is dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, some molasses, bitter hops. Substantial Porter. Easy drinker for the style.
