Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Dark black with a fairly substantial tan head. Carbonation is apperent in the mouthfeel, its nice but perhaps a touch to aggresive. Finish is fairly smooth with a touch of coffee/chocolate bitterness. Not my favorite style but overall a good beer

2/10/08 notes: bottle. Pours jet black with a small tan head. Nose is coffee, malts, maybe some bread. Palate features fair degree of carbonation. Body is very smooth, and has great semi-bitter finish. Flavors of coffee, roasts, and dark chocolate. Just really solid, without any gimmicks.

12 oz bottle into imp pint. Nice tan, tight head poured onto dark brown with ruby highlights. Smells of coffee and chocolate- and malt. Tastes of bitter/ smoothe chocolate. Can taste the roasted malt. Great feel in the mouth and very easy to drink. I haven’t had too many American porters, but I think of it as the American Fullers- different but very good and very consistent.

Wow. This porter is really good. Very dark, almost black pour. Nice brown head and a TON of flavor. Coffee at the beginning with chocolate. I really enjoyed this one.

355 ml bottle. Very dark brown, nearly black colour with a medium light brown head. Roasted malts, coffee and chocolate in the aroma. Palate was smooth, but not as full as I expected. Sweet, roasted flavour with nuts, liquorice and coffee. A good porter.

(bottle, 33cl) A very dark red porter with thick, brownish foam. A roasted, hoppy arome with some fruityness. At first it felt like a good palate but it fast became thin. The taste is quite sweet and plenty roasted. It could do with a bit more aftertaste although it had a bit of bitter harschness. Quite a good beer.

Bottle: Poured a dark black color with a medium beige color head. The aroma is coffee but sweet with some hops. The taste is sweet coffee with nice hops and twists as it warmed up. Very nice old style porter.

Bottle. Very dark brown/black, with thick head. Aroma of cream and coffee. Chocolate flavour with a hoppy finish. Some alcohol. Not as full body as you might expect
