Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Black with a small creamy head. Aroma of chocolate and pistashio. Flavor is nutty (almond, pistashio, hazelnut...) with a bit of chocolate. Some hops come through in the finish. Medium bodied. This is exactly what I think of when I think of porter. Quite good, but nothing fancy.

I live in NH and have driven across state lines to find it by the bottle. Had this at Tapwerks in OKC. Pours dark dirt brown, with slight red tint. Notes of roasted malt, spices, wood, coffee, and fruit. Taste is amazing, complex. Not too dirty, not too hoppy. Some sweetness. Finishes with a small bitter kick. An amazing beer, but much better by tap than bottle. Really amazing stuff.

Fairly large head, very deep red color, and the foam settles to a nice level that keeps for the entirety of the glass. Licorice, mocha aroma. Taste is not too bitter: almost like unsweetened chocolate with some brown sugar. Easy to drink- could put a few of these away in one sitting. Rich and not too heavy- awesome.

Bottle. Dark beer with a tan lacing around the glass. Smoked malt, licorish, sweet fruit. Thin carbonation and mildly hopped finish.

A very good porter. Sweet, slightly roasty, and very easy to drink. Roastiness doesn’t linger too long. Sweetness is almost a bit too much, lingering on fruity. Roastiness could be more, and the beer is a bit tannic after a while. Otherwise, this is a very smooth, easy drinking excellent porter. High recommended.

Pours dark brown with large light tan head that lasts forever. Aroma is sweet with caramel. Flavor is roasted and sweet and goes down real smooth. This is different than other porters I’ve had. Rich but smooth, it makes you want to drink more.

Had on draft, poured dark red to black with tan head. Aroma is sweet with sugar and chocolate. Flavor was sweet with notes of coffee and bittersweet chocolate. Creamy mouthfeel. Enjoyable to sweet to have more than one or two.
