Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Very deep and dark reddish brown beer with scant beige head, leaves nice lacing though. Sweet, roasted malts, liqorice and nice hoppiness in aroma. Roasted malts, chokolate in flavor. A bit grassy also. Aftertaste is quite bitter. Palate is oily, medium-bodied and low carbonated.

Bottle. Brown-black with large mocha head. Sweet, roasted aroma. More like sweet coffee. Caramel. Medium body. Slightly roasted after taste. Very nice porter but maybe a bit too sweet..

Black/brown color with a pale brown head. Roasted and sweet aroma with notes of coffee, dark fruits, chocolate, caramel and light citrus. Taste of roasted/lightly burned malt, dark fruit, licorice, coffee, chocolate, raisins and a bit of citrus. Medium bodied and smooth.

Pours dark brown with light brown head. Aromas of roasted malts and chocolate. Sweet roasted malt flavor. Full body with minimal carbonation and a slightly dry finish. A very good porter.

Bottle. Dark brown pour, with some off-white head. Aroma is sweet malt, some smoke, and chocolate. The flavor is the same, a little smoked, a little sweet, and overall pretty decent beer.

This porter is just hard to beat. Seriously a wonderful brew here. Chocolate, coffee, dark dried fruits in the aroma and on the palate. Hops are perfect. Carbonation is perfect. Head is nice and tan with some good lacing. Full body, full flavor. Winner!

malt, barley and chocolate flavors in a winey base of beer... this is a nice porter. moderate caramel flavor yet this beer is not slick but more full bodied and substantial yet refreshing. the bitter finish and tingle on the tongue is my signal of good hops inside. a little roasty and a little sweet. and a little surprised! nice beer.
