Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Light brown head. Black colour. Aroma is malty with coffee, dark chocolate and light nutty notes. Flavor is malty too with banana, hoppy and roasty tones, ending in a balanced moderately malty finish. Light bodied.

It seems there are a lot of people who really enjoy this beer. I would like to try it again, because a lot of these notes are old and I remember not being overly impressed by this porter. The malt profile is extremely rich and roasty at the beginning, with some slight cocoa dustiness, but just dropped right off in the finish which I found to be somewhat chalky, a tad smoky and very dry.

Dark black pour with a creamy tan head. Nice aromas of roasted malts and coffee, with hints of fruit. Good flavor too, coffee fruit chocolate and vanilla come through. Actually much better than I was expecting.

(Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm, 12 April 2008) Black colour with ruby hints, creamy pale brown colour. Roasted, malty nose with notes of chocolate, coffee and hints of smoke, tar and ashes. Roasted, malty taste with tar, liquorice, chocolate, vanilla, toffee, dark fruit and cocoa bitterness. Slightly sweet. Lovely, complex porter with lots of character.

Pours pitch black with a nice milk chocolate colored head. The beer looks great. The aroma is chocolate, burnt malt, some coffee. The taste is the same, chocolate and coffee very well-balanced. Mouthfeel is perfect for a porter. I admire Anchor, because you can tell they put a lot into their beers. Always a good choice.

Just can’t go wrong with an Anchor beer. All their beers are great. This is just another example. Nice full flavored porter with a beautiful creamy head. A must have for porter fans.

Delicious aroma is roasted and burnt malt with syrup, coffee, chocolate and hops... "a bit like Asam Bock" first came into my mind :) Very enjoyable.
