can8ianben (903), Pasadena, California, USA Apr 3, 2008 Nice and malty, but fully propped with a boatload of hops as well. Dark black in colour with a fluffy tan head. Thin mouthfeel as a porter often has. I don’t typically like porters but I find this one very drinkable. Does that mean it’s a good porter or actually one that doesn’t quite fit the style correctly? Rich and smoky aroma, smooth and bitter finish. JB175 (1654), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 3, 2008 Its not popular to say, but I’ve always regarded this one as mediocre. Its good, but there are so many good porters out there that blow this guy away - blackish brown pour with a medium head. Aroma is roasty and grainy. Flavor has a bit of coffee and hop presence with doses of chocolate and dark bread. Smooth finish, but again always boring to me. A classic, but not Anchor’s best. JHunter (242), British Columbia, Canada Mar 30, 2008 pours a very dark colour with a creamy head. aroma of coffee and caramel and a similar taste. very enjoyable Unique69crazy (119), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Mar 30, 2008 WELL DONE!! A very black brew with a developed short lived head. Chocolate hints fill the air as you begin to take your first sip. Perfectly balanced with a light heartiness at the end. Excellent at the end of large meal, this brew has captured the right essence of quality. Definitely recommend! MrRain (415), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA Mar 29, 2008 12oz bottle poured into a tulip glass. AP pours black as can be with a large fluffy tan head that persists. The aroma is subtle with hints of vanilla and chocolate. The beer is surprisingly dry. It is moderately bitter, tasting of coffee beans and vanilla. The bitterness is slightly more intense than I like but overall the beer tastes good. The finish, like the body is dry and the after taste is quite bitter. Quietman (160), Florida, USA Mar 28, 2008 Black with an off white head. The aroma consists of dark malt, coffee, dark chocolate, cola and a hint of molasses. The flavor is a fleeting sweetness immediately followed by semi-sweet bitterness that fades slowly into a dry finish.Smooth texture.Very good. ZiggyG (131), Gladstone, Oregon, USA Mar 28, 2008 Bottle. Pours almost black with a nice off-white head with very fine bubbles. Smell is lightly roasted dry malts and some dark fruits. Taste is not too roasted lots of nutty flavor with a dry finish. I really like this, probably the best porter I’ve had. jrmac (210), USA Mar 27, 2008 This beer is smoking hot. Pours deep black with a nice thick creamy head on top. Aromas of roast malt, caramel, coffee, and maybe a hint of citrus. Tastes of coffee, chocolate, and malt. I can see why so many love this great beer.
