Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Pours a dark chocolate brown with a nice thick beige residual head. Rather lively carbonation on the palate. Unsweetened chocolate, dark roast coffee, burgundy, dried sweet plums. Medium body with some hop bitterness in the finish. Smooth and highly drinkable. Stands above the average porter, but does not quite emphasize its qualities to thoroughly entice the palate. - Very good.

12 oz bottle, dark dark brown body with a foggy light brown head. Very flavorful and tasty porter, not at all watery, but not too thick. Delicious!

We really enjoyed this beer! Poured from the bottle a beautiful rich black color with a creamy tan head -- just watching it pour is a treat. Very rich flavor, dark, somewhat bitter, chocolate and mocha. Our only personal complaints would be that it finished a bit bitter to us, and sat just a tad heavy on the tongue. Those are minor complaints, though, and nothing that would keep us from agreeing that this a superior Porter.

12 oz. bottle - Poured black with nice tan head. Smelled like every other porter which is light coffee, sweet chocolate and also nutty. Taste is smooth, alot of hazlenut flavor. A really nice porter, easy to drink and alcohol is not detectable.

My first porter. Rich roasted malted barley, very lite bitterness. Dark black in color. Flavors of coffe, chocolate. Complexity never tasted so good. Top two beers for me.

Pours black with dark ruby highlights and small beige head. Toffee nose, rich and creamy on the tongue. Wonderful balance between roastiness and sweetness with a nice chocolate flavor and subdued hop bitterness. One of the best porters you’ll ever have.

Paors dark, almost black. Thick one finger head. Aroma of toffee and coffee. Taste of coffee cocoa. Has a disctinctive smoke taste to it. Bitter finish creeps up on you, Rich mouth feel. I rememebr this fondly from my SF days (late 90’s). Was a great beer then. Still is.
