fakepurseninja (772), Washington, USA Feb 17, 2008 Updated: May 11, 2008Truely fantastic porter - Silky smooth and rich, hearty roasted malt backbone with a strong, but not overpowering, bitter coffee bean and dark chocolate note. Lightly hopped with some sweet earthy cast members, maybe weak licorice and berry. Smooth and dark, very rich and satisfying.
Re-sample June 2008 - yeastier than I remember. Old rating 4.0, New Rating 3.8 - Avg Rating 3.9 Airlifter (116), Shawnee, Kansas, USA Feb 17, 2008 Pours black with a big, creamy-brown head. Aroma is nice, with a chocolaty, alcohol bite. Flavor is bittersweet, with hints of chocolate, coffee, and blackberry. Good carbonation, but just a bit thin. Great beer. weaselkenievil (738), Cheshire, England Feb 13, 2008 Updated: Aug 17, 2009Bottle at the Manchester Winter Ales Festival. 98%? Didn’t think it was that good but I certainly enjoyed it. Full bodied and slightly vimto like. Not educated enough in Porter’s to know whether this is a good one or not but I certainly enjoyed it. hopslovin (180), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Feb 11, 2008 Dark brown/black pour with diminishing tan head. Black licorice and chocolate aromas. More black licorice and chocolate in the flavor. Medium mouthfeel. Melting chocolate finish. IlanMan (816), Appleton, Wisconsin, USA Feb 10, 2008 Dark pour with creamy tan head. Aroma of a lot of malt, chocolate. Tastes th same but with a little bit of hop bitterness towards the finish. Was a very clean and smooth beer. One of the better porters out there. Would buy again. santos999 (318), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 10, 2008 A beautiful dark brown body with red hues sits beneath a creamy chocolate head leaving great lacing. Smells a tad weak and super crisp. Slight roastiness, with a bit of chocolate. Tastes full and robust, with rich chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt notes. Super creamy and rich. This is an easy drinking porter, and one I have no problem quaffing a few of. doubelknv3 (559), Illinois, USA Feb 9, 2008 Black with brown lasting head. Coffee, chocolate, and licorice aromas. Coffee / espresso, chocolate, licorice, and balancing hops flavours. Farily blanced with a nice bitter finish. darkguardian (506), Florida, USA Feb 8, 2008 12 oz bottle (sixer) into a tumbler, chilled.
Pours murky black with hints of red on the edges with a small off white head.
Smells of nuts and molasses and coffee. Taste is light and deep with coffee, roasted malt and a alcholic bitterness. A good solid porter.
