Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Very dark brown color with delicate and thin head. Very malty, burned, even a bit stinging aroma with a hint of chocolaty liquorice. Superb, creamy soft mouth feel with low carbon dioxide. Most drinkable (good) porter I’ve had due to the softness and lack of any strong-tasting characteristics. Aftertaste is hops and coffee, but a bit thin. Gets sweeter as it warms up. A balanced beer but lacks complexity and real character. Good first porter. 060208

Very nice porter, at first it had a strong aftertaste of alcohol, but that diminished after a few drinks. Several burnt flavors mixed in well together - more of an alcholoic mocha taste to it. Another fine brew from Anchor

22 oz bottle. Pours black with a thin tan head. It left a thin head throughout. Smell was of roasted malt with hints of coffee and chocolate. Taste was of chocolate, cola, some coffee and candied fruit. Mouthfeel was medium and creamy. Nice porter

A standard porter, dark color with thin head, flavors of cocoa, accented by some burnt flavors. More bitter than sweet, easy to drink. Lower alcohol than what I’ve been accustomed to in porters lately.

General66 shared a 12oz bottle of this one with me. Thanks! Very dark brown, almost black pour. Roasted malt and caramel malt aroma. Even more roasted character came through as it warmed. Dark chocolate, slight roasted malt notes, and come coffee flavors. My description sounds very generic when describing a porter or stout, but the flavors in this mesh beautifully. Really an outstanding porter and one that I wish I had tried much sooner as it is readily available to me. Some slight hop bitterness in there as well. Good stuff!
