Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

A standard porter, dark color with thin head, flavors of cocoa, accented by some burnt flavors. More bitter than sweet, easy to drink. Lower alcohol than what I’ve been accustomed to in porters lately.

General66 shared a 12oz bottle of this one with me. Thanks! Very dark brown, almost black pour. Roasted malt and caramel malt aroma. Even more roasted character came through as it warmed. Dark chocolate, slight roasted malt notes, and come coffee flavors. My description sounds very generic when describing a porter or stout, but the flavors in this mesh beautifully. Really an outstanding porter and one that I wish I had tried much sooner as it is readily available to me. Some slight hop bitterness in there as well. Good stuff!

12 ounce bottle shared with Illini08. Poured a brown color with a one finger width tan head that disappeared quickly. Smelled very roasty with hints of coffee and caramel. Tasted exactly how a good porter should... very roasty with hints of dark chocolate. It had a bitter aftertaste. In my opinion, this is what a solid porter should be. Nothing out of the ordinary but a very tasty beer!

Pours dark with a mocha head. First taste is molasses. Very creamy tasting. One of the finest examples of a porter I have ever tasted. Would buy again

Bottle. Pours very dark brown with a beige head. Smokey and roasted malt nose with caramel and coffee notes. Medium/full body. Flavor is dominated by the roasted malt. Also notes of sweet caramel and coffee. Nice balanced finish. Very enjoyable.
