AgentSteve (1334), SF Bay Area, California, USA Jan 26, 2008 Pours opaque deep brown with a fluffy oatmeal colored head. Looks and smells like a stout, with a malty, chocolaty nose. Head persists. Flavor is rich and smooth, with a touch of coffee, a touch of cola, a touch of chocolate. A bit creamy on the palate. A very nice brew. Bobsy (194), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 24, 2008 VERY dark brown pour, verging on black, but revealing ruby at the edges when held up to the light. The mocha head laces prodigiously until it settles down to a wispy film for the last half pint. The aroma of rich roasted caramel malts is paired with a herbal hoppiness and figs. The initial taste again reveals the caramel, but this is soon cut into by the leafy hops, which lend a pleasant bitterness to this drink. In fact, this is probably the only porter I’ve had where the hops have been given this prominence. Adding to this the melange of well-meshed traditional porter flavours of roasted malts, chocolate and mild coffee, and you have a winner. The mouthfeel is smooth, with perfect carbonation for the flavour. Dangerously drinkable. Ottima oreogobbler (217), Austin, Texas, USA Jan 23, 2008 Aroma smells of chocolate and a little smoke. Pours dark brown like italian coffee, with a nice thick head. Smooth palate from start to finish with a nice full body. Tastes like a bittersweet chocolate with a hint of smoke at the finish. Well rounded and easily drinkable. crowderm (275), Recklinghausen, Germany Jan 20, 2008 Very dark brown with a thing but creamy tan head that lingers nicely. Aroma is chocolate/caramel/coffee, but is very subdued. The flavor is mostly burnt, chewy malts with a bit of the chocolate from the aroma coming through. The caramel and coffee are in there too, but seem to be hidden behind the burnt malt flavor. Palate is good, but not as a thick as I would have liked. Good beer, but I seem to enjoy it less every time I drink one. BigMilly8 (374), Holiday, Florida, USA Jan 20, 2008 From bottle : A very dark pour with half finger of light brown head that has nice retention. Great lacing too. Aroma is very inviting, roasted malts and chocolate. Taste is much the same, but has what seems to be a little bitterness toward the end, but the aftertaste is a nice roasted chocolate. Thick body, with a smooth palate. Very nice easy to get porter. scrizzz (1250), kirkland, Washington, USA Jan 18, 2008 goodness this smells great! like dark chocolate raspberry fudge. aroma leads to the flavor, roasted gritty chocolate notes long soft finish efrumtheidiot (190), Maryland, USA Jan 16, 2008 pours a beautiful dark brownish black with a frothy cream colored head. aroma is like a caramel mocha minus the sweetness, with a milky cream and roasty malt. taste is roasty coffee, some chocolate, some cream. emphasis on the roasty quality, great taste! great balance. bubbly mouthfeel, not as full bodied as i had expected. an excellent porter, i think if you want to know what a porter should taste like this is the most readily available good example of the style. will definately buy again any time of year.
