Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Ottima

Aroma smells of chocolate and a little smoke. Pours dark brown like italian coffee, with a nice thick head. Smooth palate from start to finish with a nice full body. Tastes like a bittersweet chocolate with a hint of smoke at the finish. Well rounded and easily drinkable.

Very dark brown with a thing but creamy tan head that lingers nicely. Aroma is chocolate/caramel/coffee, but is very subdued. The flavor is mostly burnt, chewy malts with a bit of the chocolate from the aroma coming through. The caramel and coffee are in there too, but seem to be hidden behind the burnt malt flavor. Palate is good, but not as a thick as I would have liked. Good beer, but I seem to enjoy it less every time I drink one.

From bottle : A very dark pour with half finger of light brown head that has nice retention. Great lacing too. Aroma is very inviting, roasted malts and chocolate. Taste is much the same, but has what seems to be a little bitterness toward the end, but the aftertaste is a nice roasted chocolate. Thick body, with a smooth palate. Very nice easy to get porter.

pours a beautiful dark brownish black with a frothy cream colored head. aroma is like a caramel mocha minus the sweetness, with a milky cream and roasty malt. taste is roasty coffee, some chocolate, some cream. emphasis on the roasty quality, great taste! great balance. bubbly mouthfeel, not as full bodied as i had expected. an excellent porter, i think if you want to know what a porter should taste like this is the most readily available good example of the style. will definately buy again any time of year.
