Quake1028 (633), Tampa, Florida, USA Dec 18, 2007 12oz bottle from Degarth. Dark brown pour with only very slight hints at some red throughout. Creamy, bubbly dark tan head that is mostly lasting, and leaves a thick layer of foam. Spotty drip lacing. Dark vinous fruits, raisins, figs, tobacco, chocolate and molasses. Also get a sense of boozy soaked fruit bread or something similar. Also a bit of a sour twang, presumably from the hops. My only complaint is I wish the aroma was a little more up front, but that’s a small nitpick. Tons of roasted and charred malts on the fore, then segueing into sweet malts and chocolate, and a healthy dose of molasses. Sugary sweetness at the very end of the swallow, along with some ripe dark fruits. Very smooth, lightly creamy mouthfeel. Medium astringency, but very easily drinkable. Finish is in turns roasty, lightly bitter, sweet and slightly tart. Phenomenal, and the first thing Degarth ever told me the truth about. Charlzm (247), Los Angeles, California, USA Dec 17, 2007 Bottled, consumed on 12/17/07. Pours a clear, dark brown. Makes a nice tan head that quickly reduces to a thin skin. Grape and mocha aromas. Thin, smooth mouthfeel. Astringency present but understated. Sharp yet subtle sourness with hint of grapes again. Touch of sweet maltiness. Mild bitterness emerges on finish, segues into a fleeting chocolate note. A fine porter. Swalden28 (1439), McKinney, Texas, USA Dec 16, 2007 This porter wasn’t as good as I hoped, but it wasn’t bad by no means....Great use of roasted malts and hopes. Good head retention and nice color. Would drink again. KimJohansen (6676), Copenhagen V, Denmark Dec 14, 2007 Pours black with tiny off white head. Aroma has chocolate and burned notes. Sweet burned flavor, coffee notes and chocolate. Old time porter that still rocks! evilsoc (191), Wales Dec 13, 2007 aroma of port/dark fruit, sweet malt, subtle coffee and a tiny plastic note. tastes as it promises with the dark fruit malty sweetness and nice amount of bitterness to finish. a little bit more hops would make this truly awesome. la1965 (22), Los Angeles, California, USA Dec 12, 2007 Deep rich black colour, thick pour tan head, smells of roasted coffee and sweetnes. tastes like it smells with notes of chocolate. fairly big mouthfeel. coldbrewky (716), Saugerties, New York, USA Dec 11, 2007 Nose is on the weaker side with hints of caramel and cotton candy. Nice mocha head settles normally. some sticky sparse lacing on glass. Frothy and tingly at first mouthfeel. hints of toffe are overshadowed by the chocolate/patent malts. Smooth and rounded finsh does not weaken or diminish. Body is medium but on the higher end of that scale. A fine brew. Never disapoints. irishpenguin13 (27), Leesburg, Florida, USA Dec 11, 2007 one of the best porters i’ve had in a good while. it finishes well and keeps until the glass is empty.
