Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

12oz. Bottle: Dark, dark brown w/ a hint of blood red when held in the light. Nice tan head leaving beautiful lacing as it recedes. Malty aroma w/ hints of dark chocolate & a licoricey/molasses mix hanging in the backround. Very roasty malt on the tongue w/ a light carmel tease. Very dry finish. Slightly thin mouthfeel, dare I say watery? Nice brew, me likey.

12oz bottle. Aroma is fantastic, notes of dark malt, chocolate, smoke, and a little hops. Large tan rocky head the lasts and leaves great lace. Dark brown/black body. Flavor is dark malt, smoke and typical porter ale character. Palate is light and watery with a soft carbonation. A very good porter and if I were a fan of the style it would be one of my favorites.

12 oz bottle. Very rich, chocolate, malt, cream. Black pour, minimal head. Smooth and very drinkable, yet complex and heavy at the same time.

OMG! What a beer... Pours like used motor oil with a caramel colored head. A pleasing sweet brown sugar/molasses aroma. Flavor is a nice roasted malt with a touch or smokiness thrown in for good measure. I don’t know if this is a perfect beer but it comes close to it in my book.

Why does Anchor feature its pedestrian steam beer when everything else they make is excellent? Pours deep brown with a short tan head. Coffee, cocoa, roasty malts, hazelnut, and musty wood. Excellent, creamy mouthfeel. Rich chocolate, coffee, and malt throughout with nuts, barley, and a tiny bit of smoke. Delicious.

Poured balck as night, small head. Nice coffee, slightly sweet flavor, with roasted malt aftertaste. Light bitterness. Frothy texture and smooth going down the hatch. Top notch.
