Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Black brown color with a red hue. Big foamy light brown head that trails lace down the glass. A distinct chocolate aroma - malty and no hop smell. A medium palate for a stout; its pleasant to find this black ale not too oily. Suble flavor not too burnt not bitter. A smigen of coffee and chocolate but still a traditional beer. This is a fine all around porter.

Deep midnight black, full and creamy off white head. All kinds of aroma in the nose. Roasted malt, licorice, raisins, hazlenut, chocolate, and a hint of coffee. Medium bodied and creamy on the tongue. Finishes mostly clean with a touch of bitterness from the hops. A very good porter, probably my best to date.

Wow, I was shocked with this beer becuase you can find it anywhere. It has so much chocolate in it. The mouthfeel is the best I’ve ever tasted in any beer.

I don’t know why I’ve waited so long to try this, its pretty easy to find (Relatively speaking). This is amazing stuff. It really reminds me of a trappist ale. This is the third porter I’ve rated (Bully Porter and Rogue mocha porter being the others). Its get a rare perfect rating. Beautiful dirty head, almost black body. Caramel, fruit (Can’t quite describe it), coffee in the palate followed with a burnt bitterness that balances it out. Wonderful aroma. Fig? Raisin? I don’t know. Just a great effort from Anchor.

12 oz bottle. I really enjoyed this beer. The color was as dark as strong coffee. I detected a hint of apple in the aroma. It has a nice thick head that holds up well.
