kidmartinek (972), austin, Texas, USA Nov 10, 2007 Sweet wooden aroma, pours dark black with a big head that lasts a while. The consistency is thin for a porter. The flavor is well balanced and not overbearing. The flavor is dominated by malted barley with no hint of roasting, which is quite nice for a change. CharlesDarwin (1822), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA Nov 10, 2007 12 oz bottle. 6N1. Fig and warm brandy aroma. Bourbon cask and tangy roast malt. Restrained. Pours a dark, dark mahogany, with a big finger of fluffy cocoa-tinted soap above. Flavor is a lightly watery, yet nuanced milk chocolate, hazelnut paste, and almond butter, with a curt corner of cafe au lait, turbinado, and creamed soup. Some estery, fruity yeast character in good fashion, tinted with some buttery alcohol character. Finishes dry, clean and calmly with a sweet nip of chocolate mint. Fine beer. ketchepillar (475), Viña del Mar, Chile Nov 8, 2007 Beautiful beer. 3+ finger head; dark tan & very lasting; creamy. Pretty dark. Very nice lacing. Aroma: banana, and cherries; some crystal malts; strong caramel aroma; strong alcohol notes; also some nuttiness going along w/ the caramel. Pretty good body. Very complex finish with the roasted malts making a good showing, also some dry bitterness that comes out of nowhere, with the fruit notes lightly floating above them both. Alcohol still very much present considering the ABV. The malts aren’t like a stout, but this beer does seem to act like an imperial stout.
Nephilium (541), Ohio, USA Nov 7, 2007 Slight decent chocolate aroma, pours an almost black dark red with a thin tan head. Taste has a slight bit of chocolate, but the predominant flavor is of roastiness. Slightly bitter finish that fades to a touch of tartness. Drinkable, but not the first thing I’d reach for. Maverick34 (686), New York, USA Nov 4, 2007 Draft. Pours very dark with a minimalistic head. Chocolate, malts, your standard porter stuff. OK. JLAudio (282), Crestwood, Illinois, USA Nov 2, 2007 Pours a very nice deep brown color with a black finish to it. It formed a slightly creamy head, but didn’t perform well on head retention or lacing. It did have a nice creamy body to it, with chocolate, roasted nuts, and toast but also included a nice hop presence to round things off. Very drinkable porter, and wasn’t spectacular, but was just really balanced well mike5203 (33), Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 2, 2007 12oz bottle, pours dark brown with a medium creamy looking head. Aroma is all malt. very smooth to drink, I get a nice coffee like taste, little hops at the end. I had a friend try it, who dosen’t normally go dark and he loved it. I only wish I discovered this earlier. Kinz (2179), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA Nov 1, 2007 Another of those staples from back in the dark ages taht I haven’t had in years. Shame too, because this was actually a bit better than I remember it. Pours black, creamy tan head. Aroma is molasses and malts. Flavor pretty much matches, but it is thick, rich, and just plain satisfying. Hops balance out at the very end. Great brew, not doing it justice here.
