Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Tasted 2007-10-30. 35,5cl. Pours brown/black with dense light brown head. Powerfull, yet subtle, aroma of chocolate, liquorice, a little coffee and vanilla. Flavour of coffee and roasted malt. Flavour is a bit smokey - nice! An above average porter!

Poured an opaque dark brown with medium thick tan head that lingered well and left okay lacing. Nose was a very pleasant sweet chocolate-caramel and roasted nuts. Mouthfeel was thick and sweet, with just a slight tingle from the hops. Flavor followed the chocolate-toffee nose very well, and this all rounded to a nice, long finish that was sweet, without overdoing it. Another good beer from Anchor.

Bottle from Quaffs. Deep amber with a tan head, nice thick oily pour. Nose of sweet roasted malt, hop, caramel, ginger and cocoa. Taste is much the same, almost a bit too hoppy for a porter, sweet malt with some barley and a strange Cracker Jack note. Nothing to write home about but quite quaffable.

Good porter. Dark brown/black pour with disappearing head. Light enough to give it a high drinkability, combined with a well balanced flavor of roast, chocolate, and hops.

An excellent porter that has rich flavors of chocolate and malt. There was a limited, bitter hoppy taste after drinking a couple, but this one left me feeling very satisfied.
