Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Pours very dark brown with think head. Has coffe smell and chocolate taste. Very great taste with smooth ending. One the best beers I have had and thebest Porter I have had.

An excellent porter that has rich flavors of chocolate and malt. There was a limited, bitter hoppy taste after drinking a couple, but this one left me feeling very satisfied.

12 oz. bottle into pint glass. Pours a dark brown with a light tan head that leaves quickly. Wonderful aromas of cherries, grapes, malts and alcohol. Flavors of sweet grapes, bitter hops, and malt with a caramel finish. Has a full-bodies, rich mouthfeel and goes down exceptionally smooth. An excellent porter.

Bottle. Looks like a duck, quacks like a duck. Poured like a stout—black with a grey/brown head. Smells like a stout too—Dark chocolate, malty, and bready. Tastes almost exactly like the Bells Kalamazoo I just finished. Wonderful. Sweet espresso with a slight bitterness and plenty of roasted notes. Finish is roasted malts and a little honey.

Bottle 22oz. My favorite beer I’ve tried so far. Nice dark color, tan head. Pretty easy to drink, a little bit of bitterness, nice finish. Just what I was looking for.

Pours a gorgeous near-black brown, deep mahogany at the edges. Light brown head, thick and lacy. Chocolate, faint molasses, subtle fruit note. Initally sweet chocolatey flavour dominates, while a port-like plummy fruitiness sneaks in at the end. Finish is a satisfying stemmy bitterness. Rich and full mouthfeel (in contrast to the Baltika 7 I just finished). Absolutely delicious-- epitomizes what I love about a good porter.

Bottle from a new local indy beer seller. Pours a reddish almost black colour, frothy beige head. Serious liquorice and coffee aroma, strong malt. Very smooth and with an excellent finish.

My rating may be a little biased. I can appreciate the beer for its strong, chocolate character, viscous body, and dark pour. But I will admit that it is just too sweet of a stout for my taste. As many have said, this is one "black" beer.
