Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Dark dark brown with a large foamy tan head. Aroma is espresso and chocolate with a slight smokiness. Thick mouthfeel with lots of dark malts and toasty flavours. Finishes slightly hoppy with a drying bitterness. Nice well made porter.

Had beer April 1999. Color is a solid black, carbonation looks a bit low as well as head. Aroma is a rich roasted malt scent. Taste is sweet, rich and smooth. It starts with a rich roasted body that goes down smooth. The finish is a wonderful slightly sweet roasted malt flavor that is followed up with an evenly balanced hop bitterness and light hop flavor.

bottle. pours very dark with a thick tan head which became a 1/4" throughout. Aromas of roasted malt. Overall, a very nice porter - actually one of the best I’ve ever had. Medium body with average carbonation. Flavors of coffee a tad bit of hops. Very good session beer.

Pours almost black brown with a large bubbled mocha head. Scents of toasty chocolate and mint with a a lite flavor of roasty coffee and a strange heavy peppermint like overtone that grew on second tasting.

From bottle. Very much enjoyed this one. Cheer again JoeMcPhee. Charcoal aroma. Black in colour with a decent off white head. Great rich flavour of liquorice, coffee and hops. "Brown sugar never taste so good" Rolling Stones. Decent porter.

I was excitedly surprised by the beautifull dark pour of this beer with decent head for a beer from a bottle. This had a strong bitter coffee taste that was just on the fringes of being harsh. Some of that harshness is due to slightly too much carbonation. This was a decent beer that I would have again in a pinch.

Pours extremely dark brown with very little ruby light coming through with a one inch tan head that drops after a short while. Nose is malty sweet, but not very strong in statement. Flavor is robust and matured with slight chocolate and coffee tones...though I think I am drinking this too cold. It is definitely better as it warms. Mouthfeel is thick with a good carbonation and bubbly feeling. Highly drinkable. Could go for this one again, and again, and again.
