LanceUppercut (105), Sweden Jun 24, 2009 Aroma is of chocolate, hops and butter. Taste is also malty and buttery, with notes of chocolate and liquorish. Finish is a bit sharp, bitter and dry. A solid porter, but I’ve had better. Maddog (231), Kettering, Ohio, USA Jun 21, 2009 One of my wife’s favorite beers. I have been rating quite a bit of porters lately, and this one is good, almost a textbook porter. An old school porter in the British tradition. Falls short of Founder’s and Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald, but very drinkable nonetheless. Impressive looking with its dark body and creamy tan head, the aroma is of faint roasted malts and the flavor is mild, oily, malty sweet with some roast and coffee. Finishes with a faint hop dryness. A nice porter. Jow (12), New York, USA Jun 16, 2009 Originally bought six pack not knowing what it was. So delicious a classic. Malty, espresso flavors with great mouth feel. One of my all time fav’s JaBier (1130), Capital City, Ohio, USA Jun 14, 2009 12oz bottle from The Party Source. Pours dark brown with a medium tan head. Incredibly malty aroma with vanilla and some roastiness. Flavor is of malt, a bit of alcohol, vanilla, chocolate and coffee in the finish. Very good. armando629 (954), Budapest, Hungary Jun 13, 2009 Bought at Bierei, Vienna. Deep ruby-black body, small beige head. Fine espresso coffee in the nose with roasted aromas, some caramel-candy sugar, a bit of dried fruits and vanilla. Smooth mouthfeel with sweet-roasted malt, coffee and vanilla. Fine, delicios and easy drinkable. sallad (110), USA Jun 12, 2009 Deep clear brown, nearly opaque, ruby highlights around the edges. Thick rocky beige head. Aromas of coffee and charred peanut shells, a touch of honey and cut grass. Burnt sugar flavors, like a marshmallow blackened over a campfire, with vanilla. Crisp bitterness with dark berry and floral notes. Finishes thick around the tongue, leaving caramel that fades to bitter like coffee grounds. redlight (1445), Winter Park, Florida, USA Jun 11, 2009 bottle at redlight redlight. Creamy vanilla and chocolate on the nose. Pours black with a thin off white head. Smooth chocolatey flavors with hints of coffee, creamy vanilla mouthfeel, very smooth, This is an excellent porter! mingo1968 (27), phila, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 9, 2009 This beer i had on tap while eating a sausage/onion/pepper sandwich. it had a roasty, smokey aroma with a black, appearance and a frothy, head the flavor was medium bitterness, full body, sticky, soft carbonation , with a long finish, very strong taste. I enjoyed it but i couldn’t drink more then 3 at a sitting.
