Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Aroma of sweet coffee. Like a sweet starbucks drink. Pours black with absolutley no head retention whatsoever. Flavor is more coffee. Sweet roasty burnt malts. Some roasted nuts as well. A little bit of metallic notes. This is a pretty thick beer as well. Sweet, roasty, and nice.

Lovely balance of port and mocha-like flavors. Warm and rich, lovely color, too, although a slightly thin body. Very much won my approval. (on tap, Flying Saucer, Addison, TX)

Looks great. Is opaque dark brown and the tan head is thick and luscious. Lacing is lovely. Aroma is pure quality. Roasted malt, fun asphalt smells, chocolate, rich enticing earth. Creamy, gulpable mouthfeel. Chocolate, cream, mellow, balanced, nothing burnt, nothing bitter. Just nice quality creamy chocolate-forward porter. A really solid go-to beer!

Excellent but unusual porter that features a fairly sweet fruitiness up front with a mildly bitter, dark roasted maltiness and a yeasty flavor taking over in the finish; The fruity sweetness also dominates the nose and is reminiscent of English style porters; Black in color and opaque; Large, frothy head is dark tan in color and has excellent retention; Lacing is stubborn at first, sliding down the glass rather than sticking, but eventually grabs hold in small amounts

The creaminess and subtle sweetness reminds me more of the better oatmeal stouts (ie. Samuel Smith). This is probably one of the smoothest porters I’ve had. I’m a big fan of anchor beer, and this is, by far, my favorite.
