Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

nice chocolate sweetness and coffee ’bite’. nice thick taste. not sure if i could sip more than a couple of these at one sitting without a break for another style. definitely in my top 10 porters, though.

Very nice porter. Pour was typical of a stout with a head that was maybe subpar (but nice lacing). Aroma was raisin like with some light coffee. Flavor was somewhat sweet: maple, raisins, with a touch of coffee. Burnt flavors were nearly absent and the hops were only noticeable in the aftertaste (nicely done, since I don’t like strong hops in my stouts). Mouthfeel was heavy but smooth and enjoyable. I’ll come back to this one again.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color porter with a slightly above average foamy head with good retention. Aroma of roasted malt is well blended with some flavourful coffee. Taste is a mix between well balance roasted malt and coffee with a medium bitter finish. Body is real creamy and quite full. Probably one of the best porter I have had so far.

A dark brown to black beer is topped with a thick head. The coffee like malt aroma is laced with hints of chocolate and licorice. the flavor is slightly smokey with coffee and licorice and the finish is dry and full of coffee flavor.

rich chocolate and malt aroma. Velvety light body palate. Nice chocolate flavor with hints of coffee and a very slight sweet fruity and toffee flavored finish. A good everyday beer.

A good malty porter with some what burnt aroma. This could be the smokiness coming out just not in the right way. Good head with a deep dark brown color. Has a semi hoppy flavor which is odd to style with a nice malty flavor. Has somewhat of a metallic feel to the aftertaste. I think this is light affected. Needs more coffee flavor with maybe more time with the dark malts.

Ok appearance. Too much "corn-flakes" in aroma. An ok porter, dark and a fine flavor. But not complex enough. And the corn-flakes.....bad.
