Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Black colour with a nice long lasting head. Aroma of well roasted malts and hops, some sweetness. Creamy flavour with nice roastiness from the malts, chocolate, coffee and hops. Great brew!

A strong, sweet aroma of liquorice. Sweet taste with an abundance of liquorice, some hopbitterness and a touch of roasted malt. Bit of tartness in the finish. Nice, easy to drink porter, but I expected more complexity and assertiveness.

A Mes rate: Ok its pretty straight forward but very good all the same. Typical porter in looks, aroma and taste for me so I shall refrain from saying too much about malty chocolate, coffee and the fairly full mouthfeel. Nothing really stands out as being unusual or special. It’s just all done very well. A fine porter IMO

Bottle. Pours dark mahogany red. A thin, creamy and lasting beige head. Aroma has lots of roasted malts, some berrues and a little smoke. Nice full mouthfeel - not that creamy nor oily, just full. Flavour is quite sweet with with a clear background of roasted malts. Finishes with a well-rounded bitterness.

Poured a dark black with a large brown head. Aromas and tates of carmamel and chocolate (stornger on the carmamel side). Very light coffee in the taste. Light bitter finish. Not bad.

Thin 0.5cm head is foamy, tan, never leaving. Body is dark brown, almost opaque. Aroma is typically porterish with direct barley flavors and a small lactic bite. Rich chocolate and anise flavors. Nice range of fruitiness reminiscent of a dates cake with lots of crust. Palate is thick, oily, sweet. Not much bitterness at all despite a gentle hop hint and apparent faint smokiness. I can understand its high rating, this is everything you want a porter to be. Classy and quaffable.

Aroma of smoked nuts and roast malt. The taste is sweetish malts and smokey bacon like goodness. An excellent porter probably the best iv ever had. Great stuff. Re-rate one dimentional thin porter.
