Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Bottle. Pours ruby black with two-finger-high brown head. The aroma is chocolate and cellar must with some caramel and banana. The flavor has a lot of banana, with some dark chocolate, hints of pine, and a sweet finish with a bit of cedar. Very smooth. The banana and chocolate notes combine very well. I like it.

Black with a thin tan head. Mild roasted malt and black licorice aroma. Med body and smooth. Has a rich , hearty taste of blackened malts with a hint of herbal hop sweetness to finish. Good stuff. 8905

Black body, light tan head. Aroma is chocolately English style, some caramel and roast. Medium to light body, quite drinkable. Solid porter.

Slight rerate based on a 6-pack purchased months after first review... Pours dark with medium viscosity, and I could smell it even as I poured. Big head - about 3/4". Smells great - coffee like, bitter, malty, nutty and oats. Great sensation when it hits the tongue - smooth, with a bitter-sweet bite. Full bodied. Heavy duty lacing - looks like a snow storm. A good porter.

This should be the measuring stick for the porter style. Balances the malt and hops out nicely. Good rich chocolate/coffee taste and full bodied. This is just amazing. This has to be a top 5 porter for anyone who enjoys the style!

Bottle from Rai Wines, Harborne, Birmingham. Little aroma, but some choc. Jet black and a nice beige head, displaying a rocky personality. Amazing, fabulous smooth coffe cream taste. This is a brilliant, rounded pint - sweet smooth, creamy, balanced. All the flavours are in there, and there is a nice hint of bitterness in the mouthfeel. Top notch.
