Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Anchor Brewing has always been a favorite of mine. Going back when I first stared with their Liberty Ale and working my way up to Old Foghorn. It’d been awhile since I cracked open an Anchor Porter so I thought I’d give it a go. Pours out a rich, creamy thick tanish/brown head which stayed the course while drinking. Color of the beer is a deep chocolate brown color, with some light bubbles sticking to the sides. Flavor is dark chocolate, some roasted coffee, molasses and toffee. Flavors were more of the same with the nose but an added hop profile to keep it lively and interesting. This is an excellent example of what a porter can be. Drinkable, rich, smooth, and not overbearing in anyway. A near masterpiece from a phenomenal brewery.

Bottle. Pours dark with a nice brown head. The taste is great; a nutty burnt malt with some hops. A great drink. Smooth and yet a good strong taste.

12oz bottle from Jans Wine and Booz #2 (Tampa, FL). Pours a very dark brown to black with massive tan head that settles slowly. Head laces the glass. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of caramel, molasses, ripe dark fruit, coffee, milk chocolate. Flavor is strongly malt, coffee and dark chocolate with slight bitter coffee notes close to finish. Generally full body with a bitter finish. Not bad for a porter.

Very dark coloured, generous lasting brown head, fantastic. Roasted malty aroma and flavour, a bit fruity and sweet. Bitter finish. Not as stout-like as some other porters, and i like that. Good.

Poured into a glass. This porter and I have memories. Riding into the parking lot during my first phish show with pat and sean ahern. The first I had this I thought it was a stout. So thick, creamy, and chocolately. Yet the hops are there too. Still remains my favorite Anchor product.

Bottle. Pours an almost opaque black with ruby highlights. Aggressive pour resulted in a 3 finger tan head and great lacing. Nose has some dark fruits, mellow coffee and chocolate aromas. Taste is milk chocolate, prunes and coffee with a powdery cocoa flavor in the finish followed by some hop bite. Medium mouth feel. Good stuff.

22oz bottle 4/17/09-Pours black with a decent head. Aroma of roasted malt and chocolate. Taste of the same with a little sweetness added. This medium to full bodied brew is very well balanced and quite tasty. Great porter.
