Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

TAP- Deep dark black; Fantastic head that was dense and lingered; Wonderful aroma that requires poetry I can’t pull off. Oiliness that swirls in the mouth. A sweetness that is exquisite. Dare I say, better then the Fuller’s- Yes, I will shout it from the mountaintop.

Chocolate, carmel and raisins jump out on this one, tasted very fresh, probably due to living in California. Very nice on the palate. Very good.

Pours near black with reddish hues and a mostly maintained mocha head. Aroma is sweet roasted malts, with notes of vinous wort with chocolate and coffee goodness. Tastes of dark bread with notes of chocolate, earthy toasted malts, caramelized wort, and raisins. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Surprisingly the hops are not overwhelmed by the other beer dimensions. Exceptionally balanced. A mellow, delightful porter.

Bottle. Poured with no head at all. Dark brown/black coloured. Roasted malt, chocolate aroma. Lots of flavours, sweet, malty, coffee, chocolate with a dry bitter finish. Moderately carbonated with nice mouthfeel. Very good.

BottlePours a very dark brown, with a modest head that fades to nothing fairy quickly. Very light lacing as well. Aroma is a nice dark rasted grain, some licorice and purple graps as well. The flavor is...well...is not there. Some smokey chared taste, with a touch or molassas and malt, but it is very faint. most of it is after a breath or two passes over the tounge. It is smooth, creamy and a bit heavy and rich. Just lacks any real bold flavor. A little of that smokey, char-coal aftertaste and very little hops haning around. Good but not great.

Bottle. Can’t believe I’ve never tried this... Pour is a dark brown with a beautiful tan head. I’m not seeing any light peek through around the edges. Aromas are week, but dark malt and chocolate are present. Flavor is great... a big mix of chocolate, roasted malt and a dark fruit finish are just what the doctor ordered... Nice and full across the palate.

sweet malty nose. very creamy...a bit too creamy for a porter. flavor is sweet tobacco, nutty, heavy dark malt and more cola than coffee. there’s a slight bitterness on the finish. characteristics of a good stout but a strange porter. where’s the bitter? where’s the coffee?...must do some more research to find out...7/4/7/3/17=3.8

thick viscous pour... nearly impenetrable dark brown topped by a tan head. it’s got a luscious mouth feel. aromas of roasty malt, fresh cream, chocolate and light coffee combine with a strange fruity sweetness. aroma carries through to the flavor along with some molasses then finishes tart and lightly hoppy bitter. i tried hating on this but i can’t... it’s pretty solid. 7/4/7/4/17=3.9
