Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Black pour with a thin tan head. Aroma is a mix of sweet and roast, licorice root, tobacco on the aroma. The roast component is not the centerpiece of the aroma. Creamy palate. Mild coffee and chicle on the taste, with anise and some roast on the finish. An interesting porter, quite a lot going on in there.

Pours a dark brown, almost black, with a creamy medium tan head. Caramel, brown sugar, mocha and grassy hops in the nose. Very nice, smooth chocolately flavor with plenty of caramel sweetness, a touch of coffee and floral hops (Noble I’m guessing). Not overly roasty or bitter. Medium bodied with a creamy texture and moderate carbonation. Good lacing and head retention. Nice Porter!

Very good looking - with a nice brownish head leaving filigree on the glass. A porter full of taste with coffee and chocolate in the foreground. A lasting aftertaste.

Bottle - 355ml. Opaque black body topped with a thin beige foamy head. Nice malty aroma with notes of roasted coffee, brown sugar and grapes. Delicious taste with various flavors of malt, roasted coffee, fruits and chocolate. Strong and long bitter finish with a subtle warming effect. Very nice porter.

Pours like a cola, medium tan head. Flavor hints at smoked malt but is really dominated by chocolate ( something more expected in a stout than a porter). Pretty darn drinkable...

Not a bad porter. Has all the things you would expect of a good one; chocolate aroma, very dark pour, tan frothy head. It was just alright though.

12 oz bottle. Pours a deep brown, good dose of visible small bubbly carbonation clinging to my New Belgium glass, and an average size foamy light beige head. Aroma of sweet coccoa, raisin bread, rum soaked cake and just offly sweet overall compared to lots of other porters. Flavor is initially very sweet that fades into bitter chocolate and finishes with burnt malts. Solid beer that is consistent time after time.

Classic looking porter with a nice large soapy head. Aroma is nice and malty with plenty of roastiness. This beer feels delightfully creamy and thick in the mouth. It is as much "oatmeal stout light" as it is a porter. Those lines are blurred here indicating a substantial porter. Many of this style offer muted flavors but Anchor’s is quite robust. Flavors are coffee, dark fruit, dark chocolate and sweet malt. A great beer! I want another one.
