Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

The three D's: Deep, dark, and delicious! Dark brown, with a nice tan head. Big roasty aroma, with chocolate and coffee hints. flavor is big, malty, smooth, and a little to the swet end of the spectrum. Glad this is readily available, and it is a toast to this beer seeing that there are 470 ratings and it has a rating of 3.95!

Color is super dark, solid black with ruby red highlights near the bottom, head is cream colored, lumpy and creamy looking about a finger high. Curtains of tight lace. Smells faintly of citrusy sharp hop with a bit of some kind of tart raisin or plum fruity darkness. Its flavor is pretty dark and smoothly menacing with a fruity punch and roasty/toastyness taste that continues with a nice mix of light chocolatey bitterness. Milds out as it warms. Feel is very medium, nearly heavy, quite smooth and a bit creamy with a really interesting light little bitterness in the mouth, tongue, and even the lips. Super good stuff.

Classic looking porter with a nice large soapy head. Aroma is nice and malty with plenty of roastiness. This beer feels delightfully creamy and thick in the mouth. It is as much "oatmeal stout light" as it is a porter. Those lines are blurred here indicating a substantial porter. Many of this style offer muted flavors but Anchor’s is quite robust. Flavors are coffee, dark fruit, dark chocolate and sweet malt. A great beer! I want another one.

Dark roasted coffee flavors and aromas with hints of chicory and tar. A distinctive cocoa powder character to it too. Seems a bit thin.

Not a bad porter. Has all the things you would expect of a good one; chocolate aroma, very dark pour, tan frothy head. It was just alright though.

12 oz bottle. Dark brown with a lumpy beige head. Nose of grapes and licorice; some resin. Taste is similar. Surprised at how vinous this is, almost like a sherry. Dark chocolate emerges in the finish with mild hop bittering. Medium light with moderate carb. Nice drinker.
