Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Almost completely black body, with a very beautiful thick tan head. The aroma is very powerful and strong. I can smell licorice, roastiness, soy, coffee and chocolate, just beautiful. The flavor is very burnt, coffee, licorice. Very crwamy mouthfeel and perfect amount of carbonation. This is a very nice porter... If i were on the Irish Rover, this should be the 7 million barrels of porter which they had on board! (Hint: The Pogues - Irish Rover)

12 oz bottle. Dark brown with a lumpy beige head. Nose of grapes and licorice; some resin. Taste is similar. Surprised at how vinous this is, almost like a sherry. Dark chocolate emerges in the finish with mild hop bittering. Medium light with moderate carb. Nice drinker.

This beer took a while for me to appreciate, and I’m not sure why. The aroma is kind of weird--really sweet in an odd sort of way. The flavors are nice, chocolate, coffee, a touch roasted. The flavors are mild and pleasant, if the nose was nicer it would rank much higher with me.

Bottle. Pours a pure, dark brown with a nice, foamy tan head. Aroma of nice chocolate and coffee. Very malty. Taste is pure smoothness. Nice and creamy with a great finish.

12oz bottle. Black with a small tan head. Acidic, chocolate aroma. The flavor is quite acidic and roasty with chocolate and some alcohol. Bitter, but in an odd way that I cant pinpoint. medium thickness with small carbonation. Something just isn’t clicking for me with this one; its a nice beer, and a good porter, but maybe I’m going through an anti porter stage in my life. (3.2) Rerate: Less acidity and bitterness than my last rating. Quite smooth and sweet, with plenty of chocolate flavors. I would actually like some more bitterness or roasty flavor, as the sweetness kinda runs with it. A nice porter, but by number two it gets to be a bit much in the sweet department.

Pours coffee black w/ a medium sized, semi creamy froth. Aroma is fruity w/ rasins. Full nectar w/ ample residual effers. Flavors are fruity, kinda bubblegumy w/ roasted coffee bean and cocoa tar. Overall: It’s easy and full of flavor but more like bubblgum rock & roll popculture.

Big bottle here for a decent price. Pours brown black with red highlights and a small fizzy head. Aroma of alcohol, sweet cherries, and brown sugar. Sweet smooth flavors, foamy chocolate, light roast, bitterness, overly sweet.

Very dark and rich color. Aroma is roasty and needs to be warmed. Cold it is a bit thin. Taste is smooth and roasty with some usual coffee and a hint of bittersweet cocoa.
