This was the first Anchor beer I ever had; I believe it was 1999. And it made an impression on me then as a good beer. That hasn’t changed...this is a very good porter.
Appearance is of a dark, nearly opauque reddish brown with a dark tan head. Also, this product comes in the unique Anchor bottle.
The aroma of Anchor Porter is of caramel and sweet alcohol (not hop) esters. It is a pleasant smelling product.
Taste is of chocolate with a definite alcohol component which is not at all unpleasant. There is a slightly sour malt taste which accompanies the lingering alcohol taste.
This is a pretty sticky porter. The caramel malt seems to build on the back of my tongue.
Drinkability wise...I am happy I’m drinking this beer at this particular moment, but I think when I’m done with it I’ll have something else.

Oct 5, 2008 Very dark pour with an off-white head that left nice lacing. Aroma was weak, consisting mainly of muted malt and coffee. Taste was better, with a mix of chocolate and coffee and some roastiness/smokiness.

Oct 3, 2008 poured dark brown with nice head that disapated to a thin head that lasted forever. didn’t get much aroma but my smeller may not be working too well. Flavor is great - creamy and chocolate/malt/coffee - nice little bite in the aftertaste to mix it up - awesome palate - Very good and I plan to get some more of this stocked up.

Oct 3, 2008 From bottle. Poured dark brown with thin brown head. Big chocolate and coffee smells. Sweet coffee flavors with a chocolate finish. Classic Anchor.

Oct 2, 2008 Bouteille de 1Pt et 6oz, acheté à City Market (Burlington, Vermont) le 25/9/08. Brune cola, moyen collet. Arome de malte cafiné, avec des notes de ptits fruits alcoolisé. Goût bien malté, sensation de choco café, avec une finission de fruits rouges légèrement sûrette. Un bon porter malté et un peu sucré, simplement agréable!

Oct 1, 2008 Bottle. Poured a dark brown with a thin brown head into an English pint glass. Aroma of malt, chocolate and coffee. Flavor was awesome with balanced malt and coffee tones with a chocolate finish. Great beer.
