Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

A wonderful porter. This beer has a dark brown color with a pleasing, potent aroma. Anchor Porter is smooth with a creamy, rich, almost 'chocolaty' flavor. This is an excellent choice to sit back and relax with.

Bottled. Looks and pours like a Guinness, just with a slightly foamier head. Smells and tastes wonderful, like a whiff of Hershey bar hiding a more subtle sloe gin cherry. The texture is a little bit grainy, yet also mellow. Not a harsh note to be found. This is indeed one of the world’s great porters.

I love porters, and this is the best available to me -- velvety, chocolatey, malty, and gets better as it warms. Mmmmm

This beer is black as night, with a little bit of ruby-colored tint, when held up to a strong light. When poured, you get a large head that lasts forever. Nose is a little malty, with chocolate, caramel, and coffee mixed in. Flavor is outstanding - what a porter is all about. Slightly toasted, malty, and a bit sweet. Palate is nice and creamy smooth. This is one of my favorites ever.

I like this beer. It is probably one of my favourite porters. I am not often in the mood for so heavy a brew as a porter nor does the setting here in Birmingham often seem complementary to its weighty seaport-sounding heftiness and mouthfeel. I don’t really know what I’m talking about - the review had to be about yay long...I liked it. I liked it.

One of my favorites, the beer that introduced me to ’good’ beer. A gorgeous nearly black with a thick diminishing light brown head. Nice aroma of milk chocolate, malted milk balls, vanilla, licorice, roast and coffee with a hint of sweet raisin. Medium creamy body with a moderate amount of carbonation. Great flavor of plum, raisin, roast, malted milk balls, vanilla, milk chocolate, drip coffee and roast. Very drinkable, one of my staples. Have I overrated it? Probably, but not by too much.

Bottle. Thanks JZ. This one poured with a huge thick head and it stayed with us for the duration (which was not long after my first taste). Nose was sweet, nutty, but not strong or overwhelming... this may be a good one. Great amounts of thick lace lining the pint glass as the lumpy head falls slowly. Deep, deep ruby black color and a taste of huge malt! Sweet and flowing to back of tongue where a toffee/chocolate bitter rises and slowly fades. This is the best porter that I have ever tried... bar none! Mouthfeel is an incredibly cheery, creamy, buzzing beautiful thing. Excellent!

Paid $1.39 for a 12-oz single. Nice and dark- just about black, with a large, brown head. Looks frothy and fluffy, and seems to last. Deep roasted something in the nose. Slightly pasty as well. Nice. Deep cold coffee, deep rich and flavorful wonderfulness. This is a fantastic brew- a top-notch porter! Rum raisen comes to mind as well... Wow, I'm very impressed! A very nice beer that I will gladly snatch up next time I see it.
