Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

One of the best porters in existence. It’s a tough call between this and Rogue Mocha Porter.

A superb porter. Wonderful chocolate taste (and aftertaste). Goes down so smooth I could drink this all night.

Is there a theme going on here? Maybe the best porter made in the USA, but them more research is required. Reminds me very much of Sam’s Imperial with its port flavors. Great coffee dryness, teasing chocolate aroma. Anchor Steam made this brewery famous, but this beer is better.

Near black, bit deeply reddish. Nice, thick, mocha head. Lovely nose, hints of chocolate, a bit of cofee, and nice bitterness. Some nicely deep fruitiness, bit of cherry or plum. Very nice flavor, impressively vinous up front, bit rich and sweet, slightly port-esque. Good roasts follow, hints of dry chocolate. End is crisp and perfectly hoppy, enjoyable dry and acidic. Excellent creamy flavor. #900.

Roasted chocolate/coffee aroma. Black, large light brown creamy head, perfect lacing. Sweet, coffee, malt flavors. Finish is roasted, bitter and long. I love this beer!

Very nice porter! It was less hoppy and fizzy than most porters you will find. The aroma reminded me of Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout. The heavy malts are not too strong, making this one very smooth porter.
