Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Served in a 12oz brown bottle. Pours thick, dark black and oily with a moderate brown head that slowly dissipates. Deep black color in the glass - no light penetrates. Strong sweet scent of roasted malts and chocolate. Sweet and malty flavor with a strong suggestion of molasses, with smooth roasty flavors that linger on the palate. This is certainly one of the sweeter porters that I have had and is probably my favorite in the style.

Damn this was good. The beer is very dark reddish black letting just a hint of light through. There is a small, but persistent tan head and an aroma of roast and chocolate. The flavour is dominated by a reasonably sweet chocolate profile with hints of roast. The aftertaste lingers with a pleasant bitterness. The carbonation level and thickness are just right.

I had some on tap at Growler’s in St. Louis and it was excellent. About a week later I bought a six pack and it was good but not as good as what I had on tap. Great appearance. A chocolate coffee thing going on with the taste. I’d put the tap batch I had ahead of Bully Porter but the bottle behind the Bully.

Can definately notice a sweet chocolaty aroma. Nice dark brown/black color and not much head. Has a nice rich roasted flavor that lasts. Complex and pleasant taste. I want MORE!!!

Bottle. Black as night with a creamy off-white head. Wonderful roasted malt, slightly sweet flavor with just a hint of hops. Smooth as cream. This is one fine beer.
