Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

The color is absolutely perfect. Rich flavor, but not overpowering really. And though it is a porter I didn’t find it as filling. The head is a nice beige and has a coffee/toasted scent.

Bottle 22oz. My favorite beer I’ve tried so far. Nice dark color, tan head. Pretty easy to drink, a little bit of bitterness, nice finish. Just what I was looking for.

Pours almost black. Nice hints of coffee and chocolate. Classic Porter malty taste with a nice dry finish.

Chocolatey pour, fluffy brown head, serious lace, looks awesome. Sweet, tangy nut aroma. Sweet tangy nut aroma. Smokey nutty malts with some dark fruit hops in there. A bit of bitter worcestershire sauce and roasted caramel malt taste. Very good.

Pours almost black with a nice foamy tan head. The retention and lacing is excellent. The smell is of roasted malt, brown sugar, and hops. The taste is initially of roasted malt with the subtle presence of hops. After washing over the tongue a few times, the brown sugar comes through (especially as it warms) and all the tastes blend into a nice bittersweet finish. The mouthfeel is on the light side for what I would expect form a porter, but this is not necessarily a negative. Carbonation is balanced and lends to the brew’s crispness. This is a very easy drinking porter. I would take delight in having several of these in a sitting (though I don’t normally like to do that). The bittersweetness of this brew makes up for any loss in complexity. This is a great straight-up porter and I think it will become a regular for me. Reviewed on: 04-20-2007

12 oz bottle. Pours a deep brown color, with tanned head and fair lacing. Aroma of dark fruit, juicy malt with a touch of nuts and yeast. Medium body with sweet malt, dark fruit and espresso coffee fill the mouth. Nice long dry finish. Great porter.

Very good porter, well balanced and well made. This beer had a very pronounced raisin taste to it, which was surprisingly pleasant. I will definitely buy this beer again.
