Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

April, FRIDAY THE 13TH!!!! 2007!- Re-Rate.
Aroma is stewed raisins, cocoa, chocolate and black licorice. Huge fluffy mocha colored head. Very frothy and lasting. Black body. This beer is just damn close to perfect. Black licorice, cocoa, anise, roast malt and a deceptive alcohol kick. It’s just farking awesome. That is all there is to it.
August 21 2006 re-comment
Still a freaking benchmark for the style though this time it seemed to have more raisin notes to it. It’s still the freaking bomb as porter goes and it is still pushing the boundaries of the style after all this time.
June 12 2006 re-rate
Aroma is rich chocolate, brown sugar, raisin and maple syrup. Body is black and holds a slowly diminishing, two finger thick mocha head. Fore is stewed raisins, maple syrup, burnt malts and burnt bitterness. Has a baltic porter feel to it flavor wise. Mouthfeel is perfect for the style. Finishes like a liquid blast of rum raisin bread and chocolate tinged coffee.
original rating was 4.

I chose Anchor Porter as my 100th rating as this is a beer close to my heart... one in which all porters seem to fail in comparison. Pours a deep, blackberry/red-brown with a large, tan, souffle of a head that falls slowly and softly leaving excellent lacing. Heavy malt aromas are dark chocolate and dark fruits, with a light alcohol presence. The full-bodied flavor balances bitter coffee and semi-sweet chocolate, leaving a light tingle of alcohol to dry the mouth... which causes you to open another...

A very nice mixture of smoke, chocolate, and coffee. This is the best Porter I have tasted.

This Porter pours deep black with a huge mocha head.It has a perfect blend of hops robust but not too bitter and balanced well with the malts. It has the flavor of dark chocolate with notes of molasses and black cherries. The nose was exceptional. What really stood out to me was the amazing flavor,a very well brewed Porter, that I will buy again. It has a Palate that will make your mouth water ,like an electric shock on the tongue.Nice effervescence adding to the palate.

This is an outstanding, rich porter. From a bottle this pours almost black with a hint of deep red. It has a thick, beautiful dark beige head which is creamy and long-lived, and leaves excellent lacing. It is rich and full-bodied, with strong, but smooth, well-balanced, and complex flavour & aroma. Incredibly drinkable yet full of rich flavour and with a smooth, strong finish, it is simply incredible.

1 pint 6 oz. Bottle. Pours black with a thick long lasting foamy light-brown head. Fruitty armoa’s control the senses. Taste packs puches of: Smoke, roasted coffee, resin and basement whiffs. Carbination is present but doesn’t control the flavor. Bitterness is minor and the finish is full. Excellant Beer.

12 oz bottle. Very dark brown with not much of a head and really good flavor. Chocolaty flavor with a nice finish.

Great porter of a fine quality very impressive. A favorite great for a fishing trip or camping nice with marshmallows. Pours thick and dark black like an imperial stout and puts a smile on your face.
