Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Very nice colour. Almost black, with a light brown creamy head. Aroma of coffee and alcahol and hints of chocolate and spices. The flavour is roasted and have notes of coffee, chocolate, burned almonds and spices. Complex and challenging. Has an excellent aftertaste of bitter chocolate, and in the dying stages i have some apple notes. This is a great porter.

Boy is this good beer... pours black with a brownish head. Sweet, bitter, huge mouthfeel and a bitter finish. A riskier combination of flavors than other notable porters, and good because of this.

This should be the measuring stick for the porter style. Balances the malt and hops out nicely. Good rich chocolate/coffee taste and full bodied. This is just amazing. This has to be a top 5 porter for anyone who enjoys the style!

Black with ruby tones shining through. Excellent espresso smell, i think I smell anise. Head is rolling back to a thin slick of bubbles. Coffee and bitter chocolate flavors. Heavy bodied coffee feel on the palate. Smokey hint on the tongue. Long bitter chocolate finish. Yum! This could be great for breakfast.

Another of those staples from back in the dark ages taht I haven’t had in years. Shame too, because this was actually a bit better than I remember it. Pours black, creamy tan head. Aroma is molasses and malts. Flavor pretty much matches, but it is thick, rich, and just plain satisfying. Hops balance out at the very end. Great brew, not doing it justice here.

Opaque, dark brown hue. Tan, creamy head with good retention. Caramel nose leads to nutty body with cherry notes. Dry finish. Outstanding beer.

Second Great Anchor beer I’ve tried. Pours Dark Black. Smells foody and savory. Starts coffee laced with fruit, resolves to seasame seeds and malt. Yummy

It was voted number 1 porter at our local beer shop as voted by the patrons. Smells like chocolate cheesecake from Schlotsky's deli. Dark and rich. Slightly alkaline yet not bitter at all. Seemingly foamy going down yet very pleasing and smooth to swallow. Goes well with many foods. Being more food than drink, this one will fill you up. I recommend this beer highly.
