Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

Poured a midnight red with a standard head. Nice little aroma, reminding me of a neighborhood coffee shop. Flavor is magnificent coffee, toffee, and dark baked fruits. Excellent porter. (#2643, 1/7/07)

This beer was a staple of mine back in my pre-ratebeer days. Damn I wish I would have come back sooner. The body is almost opaque black but the edges are ruby tinged. The head is a beuatiful pillow of dense mocha goodness. Glass lacing is also outstanding. The aroma is rich roasted choco-coffee malts. Big thick roasted malt flavor that doesn’t quit. The hops kick in about mid way through and help bring things to a wonderful close. Body is medium-full and very rich. Damn fine stuff!

Pours opaque with tall brown frothy head. Leaves nice lacing. Aroma is roasted and smoky with coffee, chocolate, cocoa. Very little carbonation. Smooth creamy mouth feel. Quick finish, no bitter aftertaste. Very nice. A little hops come through after the roasted flavor. Very easy to drink.

Dark black pour, with a fluffy tan head. Strong aroma of chocolate, coffee, and roasted malts. Taste is fantastic. Wonderful on the palate. Coffee is predominant, along with chocolate, but you could get lost in this one. Some expresso, licorice, toffee, caramel, smokey malts, nice hopping.. it just goes on. Finish is a semi-sweet, perfect bitterness. Definitely the best port I've had yet. Most porters lose me on the finish, but this was top notch. Deserves its spot amongst the best ports'.

Bottle. Dark black with foamy brown head. Aroma had dark chocolate and a bit of licorice. Taste is nice and malty with chocolate. Finishes dry and bitter. Excellent beer. I will bump up it’s overall rating because it’s very cheep and I can find it anywhere.

Bottle. Very dark brown with a nice tan head. Fades to a simple ring with mild lacing. Sweet strong coffee and chocolate aroma with a little bit of fruitiness. Flavors of bitter chocolate and coffee and dark fruits, all burnt to a mild smokiness. Incredible. A slight sweetness lingers through all the way to the finish. Moderate carbonation and a substantial mouthfeel. The flavor lingers like an espresso chewing tobacco is lodged in your gums. Can be found almost everywhere, and is better than any other porter in most stores. Don’t pass it up.
