Commercial Description:
San Francisco's famous Anchor Porter brand is made in one of the smallest and most traditional breweries in the world by the brewers of Anchor Steam Beer. Our old-fashioned Porter is virtually handmade, with an exceptional respect for the ancient art of brewing. We use 100% malted barley, generous amounts of fresh, whole hops, entirely natural carbonation and a simple, natural brewing process which is like no other in the world. The deep black color, the thick, creamy head and the intensely rich flavor of Anchor Porter, made in San Francisco since 1974, have earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality. It is aesthetically pleasing and wholly superior in every respect.

This is the first robust/sharp porter that I’ve tried and its really quite tasty. Much better than the sierra nevada porter which is a little to pale for a porter. This has a unique finish which I am unaccustomed with. Quite a surprise.

Pours dark brown almost black with a small tan head, fruity chocoloate aromas. Sweet chocolate and burnt coffee flavors, medium body and a nice mild hop bite, but very smooth, a great porter and fairly easy to find.

Chocolate, coffee, and liquorice aroma. Almost black, trace of ultra violet, large creamy cappuccinno head. Roasted coffee, bitter chocolate, and liquorice flavours. Medium bodied, finely bitter, and dry. Terrific, very satisfying!

I really loved this porter. Slightly sweet, with loads of coffee and chocolate. I’d recommend this to anybody as I couldn’t ever imagine anybody not liking it. I loved it!

Rerate - Well, this was my very first rating about 18 months ago - still tastes just as great - notice a bit more smooth chocolate flavor and the appearance is deep, dark black. Nice roasty aroma - goes down oh so smooth. No gritty aftertaste Original 4.0 Excellent for a 'mainstream' Porter. Great coffee aftertaste.

Very dark brown. Firm, creamy, khaki, head. Nice patchy lace. Aromas of malt(tar, roasty),and some leafy hops. Oily, extremely creamy, palate. Great roasty, cocoa, burnt flavors. Bittersweet finish..roasty and sweet. Excellent porter, will buy this more often.

Before I rate, Id just like to thank 'krisbierjaeger' for some of the most truly provocative, intense, mind boggling and entertaining reviews I have ever laid eyes upon. That said.. this beer is excellent. Full bodied, smooth, brimming with flavor (almost a sweet coffee taste). Best anchor Ive had, and easily one of the best porters I'll ever have. HUZZAH, what a troglodyte!
